Thumbs down Turbonetics kit AC explosion.

Was just cruising around today in Tampa. In and out of boost at around 5lbs. All of a sudded I hear a loud pop and all this steam comes out from under the hood. Also the engine died.. So I started laughing thinking that my motor just popped and its time to start my build. I bumped up my AAA membership and im ready to be towed home from anywhere.. So I pop the hood and theres green fluid everywhere, I thought it was coolant but it wasnt. The TN kit had fried right thru my upper AC line which was wrapped.

So I try to start the car and it would not start back up...Why the AC blowing would not let the car start really boggles me. It should have no effect on anything. After cranking on the engine for about 40 seconds the car finally decided to start back up.

So now I have to go thru the aggravation of taking off the turbo and fixing the line. I really just want to ditch this POS kit since im not rolling with 2/60 air (2 windows down at 60MPH).

Perhaps the AC's compressor clutch/pulley got stuck or seized from the sudden lack of freeon/oil. Which caused the motor to have trouble spinning hence no start

The motor was cranking though, just would not turn over. It stalled out when the line exploded and I rolled off to the side of the road. Maybe the car took a big inhale of FreeOn and stalled out???

This is common on the TN kit. I went through 3 lines in 8 months before I had a longer custom one made and then wrapped it to death.

Not sure why it shut off though, mine never did that

I've had mine on for about 4 years and no problems. It was a better choice than a Vortech supercharger. lulz

My last dyno was at 372rwhp on GT Motorsports' dyno on 91 pump gas. Boost reached about 8.5 psi as it was quite warm the day of the dyno tuning. Mods included 440cc injectors, Greddy E-Manage Ultimate, custom 3" piping and a TurboXS exhaust canister.

I don't drag race as it isn't my thing (more of a road course fan).

Yes, there are better quality kits but properly installed (which is what GTM is known for) the kit continues to go incredibly strong. GTM advised on the extra firehose wrapping, getting a patch kit so that I didn't hack my wires for the piggyback etc etc.

The kit has been extremely reliable to me. I literally put it on and have not had to worry about it.

i in no way was out to bash the kit from my first post but for some reason u came at me like the t-netics kit is superior to the vortech kit which in reality in no way is true, vortech can make just as much power all day long and is a quality kit..sure that was a good kit when it came out, its an outdated kit now and im sure u know the history on all the problems from the turbos blowing seals left and right to pipes cracking, i had a wastegate basically fall off and the crossover pipe cracked..its just known for those issues..yes and also it is good to take those precautions with that kit as far as heat wrapping and to run an actual ems instead of the t-netics garbage flash that was blowing cars up with boost creep issues..i made 425whp355ft. lbs on 9 psi on the vortech on a dynojet, im not a dyno racer, they are for tuning purposes..track times and traps will tell it all..

I felt that the TN kit was superior as far as being able to make power easier without putting parasitic drag on the engine which is natural when it comes to supercharging. Additionally, I loved the torque the turbo creates.

I was going to go with the Vortech but I didn't like the idea of the drag and the idea of belts having to be tightened and what not.

Yeah, I am aware of the issues on the piping but I have been extremely fortunate.

By today's standards, yeah, the TN kit is super outdated and I have been interestedin getting a nice TT set-up but also building the engine. Unfortunately for my hobby with the Z, I recently purchased my first home so I won't be modding it any time soon. Considering the Cali laws, I've pondered about leaving my 350 alone and purchasing an old Datsun 240Z and droppig in an RB25;26 in it.

Additional info: I asked Sam to make my tune very conservative as my main fear was blowing a rod. I asked him to make it pig rich at high boost- around 10.5:1 A/F ratio. lol

^ I agree, and im not being a TN nutswinger either. The kits are cheap now, make great power and are a total blast to drive. They fixed most of the problems with the overboost pipes and advances in VQ tuning have smoothed out the detonation issues. My car runs smooth as butter throughout the entire Rpm range. I also like the fact that its so laggy that I can drive around not in boost most of the time.

I also had mine tuned very conservative for somewhat longevity. Mine tops out at around 11.0 @ Redline. I also added a oil cooler for a little more engine cooling.

My Z isnt my main hobby either, I spend more money on my boat.

Used or new? Everythings getting cheaper now for the Z33 though. Theres alot of used kits going around but some are very very used. New the kits are still pretty much the same.

I always look on Turbokits.com for current prices.

I just checked the site Twitch suggested. When I first bought my Turbonetics Single Turbo kit, it was $3,400 from one of the Performance Nissan dealerships.

Turbokit.com is selling my same kit, 5 years later, for almost $5,000!!! What a rip! They are still using the sh1tty reflash!!!
