Gettin Haltec ECU manager to recognize
Haltech manager can not find my ECU. The process is so simple I can't imagine what is wrong. Tried multiple USB ports and cords.
My only guess is that I'm using a work laptop that could have some kind of software interfering. On the other hand I've loaded iTunes and several printers....
I'm obviously not a talented techi.... Any suggestions?
Thanks,
George

My car boots up every start up and automatically loads ECU manager and syncs. It works every time without fail. The car must be running or the ignition must be in the "ON" position in order for the Haltech to be fully powered. My laptop works fine too. Both run win xp. Not sure what the problem could be...

Guess it was driver related. New laptop = win
Did find this on haltech trouble shooting doc:
"No Communications to ECU
Check power to ECU. Check that the cars ignition is turned on to supply power to the ECU.
Check communications cable. Check that it is plugged in firmly and does not have damage. Cables are easily damaged when shut in car doors.
Ensure that your USB drivers have been installed correctly. To check if your ECU has been recognised by your PC, you can view your USB devices in the Device Manager. To open the Device Manager, right click on the My Computer icon, and select Properties.
Select the Hardware tab and click on Device Manager.
Click on the '+' symbol on to open up the tree to dispaly the list of devices.
If your USB driver is installed and the ECU to connected, there should be a device named in the list.
If the USB device is appearing in the list, but you still have problems communicating, then you can try un-installing and re-installing the USB driver. To remove the driver, open the Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs and remove the following item:
.
After installing the ECU Manager software, a copy of the USB drivers will be placed in C:\Program Files\Haltech\USB Driver Installer . The driver can be installed from here, but opening the installer program PreInstaller.exe.
