Default PowerLab Install in progress...

and quite a few dreamer threads, i'm finally about to begin my FI project

My goals for this are really mild (no more than 450-475rwhp) as this is a sedan that hauls my kids around on occassion. That being said, I found a pretty good deal on a used Powerlab kit w/ custom intake manifold, HKS blow off valve, turbo blanket, some heat wrap, and a Hydra EMS (which I'll be posting for sale tomorrow, once I take appropriate pictures). This is going to be the first A) time doing any sort of wrenching on my car, and B) doing any FI, so I will probably need your help during this process. I'm looking at starting the install within the next 2 weeks.

See, I failed when I went up to pick up the kit in SF (made a weekend trip out of it). On the way home, I left the intercooler behind

either way, he said he's going to ship it out to me this week.

That being said, anyone have a PDF of the install instructions they can send me? I'm going to search, but if i can get a copy from someone here, that would be appreciated.

EDIT: install pics added on page 2

I would say more like 375-400 should be your goal on a stock block. If this is your first time wrenching on your car and first time working with FI, you are in for a challenge, especially since you are trying to retro fit this on a sedan. Is this possible....yes but I wish the best for you, good luck!

i should have been more clear, LOL. The end goal is 450-475rwhp once i build the bottom end. for now, i'd be happy with a conservative 360-375rwhp.

I posted a thread not too long ago regarding any differences in the engine bay between g35 sedans vs coupes, and was told everything is the same up up to the Y-pipe; after the Y-pipe is where there are differences. hopefully thats true; guess theres only one way to find out.

Awesome! Congrats on the acquisition OP!

My brother and I installed my PowerLab 35R kit in about 3 days in a standard 2 car garage with nothing more than basic tools and a few jacks from Harbor Freight. I picked up the kit brand new from a local guy that never got around to installing it on his 350Z (he sold his Z and bought a G37). Couldn’t be happier with this kit, made 360 whp on 4.5 psi (boost controller’s getting installed this week though… ). Looking forward to seeing your build!

I’d also look into Jet Hot coating the exhaust piping too; it made a very noticeable difference on my car.

Why??? Don’t let 95k on the engine stop you!
That’s when I added the PowerLab 35R and ProEFI computer… do it!

I believe he did jet coat all The piping. At least that's what he told me....is there something I should pay attention to in ordertl verify he did that? How much experience did you have wrenching prior to installing this kit? As I said before, I had no experience beyond coilover installation

Well, I can’t really tell from the pictures you posted, but according to Jet Hot you’re not supposed to wrap the piping once it’s coated. But you should be able to tell if it’s coated by just looking at piping, it should be silver and there shouldn’t be any discoloring/burn look on the piping. Take a look at my build thread; I have some pics of the kit before I installed it.

I personally didn’t have much experience wrenching, my brother’s installed turbo kits before and he helped me out, but overall it wasn’t a terribly difficult ordeal, just take your time and make sure you have everything you need for the install. Also, I recommend getting a friend who has some experience to help out though.

What EMS are you going with?

I'm gonna run an uprev for now. For my goals the research and people I've talked to said it's a good bang for the buck for sub-400 rwhp

regarding the wrenching, i figured it would take me longer than the normal (15hours or so) because it's all so new to me, and i'm probably gonna take my sweet a$$ time, LOL

That’s what I’d do, take a few days to do it, the more time you spend working consecutively on your car (i.e. 10 hours straight) the more fatigue sets in and the more quality suffers, lol

I already have a Walbro 255lph pump....is there a mount kit I'll need to get? I bought it used off a member here.
As things move along, I may add an FRS for now...although I'm not sure if that's really needed at my present goal of 360-375rwhp. Also taking an inventory of the items in the kit, i came across some injectors. How do I verify what size they are?

What do the injectors look like? pics? I think most PL kits came with DeatschWerks 600cc injectors, here's the set that came with my kit:

The stock fuel pump housing can be modified and it will work. I am not sure exactly what the modding entails though so I will let someone else explain it.

FRS is not REALLY needed at your level but can help your fuel stay more even across the range and for me at least was peace of mind.

I run DW600cc injectors with a RFS and a walbro 255 setup on mine

The injectors I currently have look just like those. However when I called Powerlab to verify, they told me I may have the now discontinued 550cc injectors. Only way to get a definitive answer is to get them flow tested.

Keep in mind some of the older sedans (03-04 with gen1 ECU) cannot use uprev. Your options will be VERY limited in terms of EMS.
