Default Bigger must be better

As I am sure most of you know that I have been looking at upgrading the FMIC for the ST kit. It looks like I found one that will work well for those with built motors, and the 6765 turbo. I will continue to use a 7" tall core for those on a stock block, as that FMIC is doing it's job well with boost up to 13psi.

Here is the new unit, side by sade with the very first 6" tall core:

Same width, same thickness, just a 3" difference in core height.

Fitment:

Bumper still fits fine:

Manufacturer specs:

Supports 1950 CFM's, 1300HP at max efficiency 2.0 psi pressure drop.

Overall Size: 26.50" X 15.00" X 3.50"
Core Size: 25.00" X 9.00" X 3.50

This is as large as I can go behind the OEM bumper. The core is identical in size at the APS TT FMIC.

50% increase in core size? Excellent. I'm curious to see the air temp difference when turned up.

nice looking IC.

has anyone actually measured AITs with the smaller core on the open road? Dyno doesnt count.

Yes. The feedback that I got from Vas is that after many WOT runs, at 12-14 psi on a 70deg day, his IAT's stay in the low 90's at the top of all gears. So the FMIC is working well. However, I want to make sure that there is no issues if somebody wants to run 20psi with the 6765 turbo.

Jeff also sent me some numbers, but he has the G bumper, and it completly covers the FMIC. I dont think that would be a fair indicator of the cooling capacity of the 6" core FMIC.

Hal, 33% increase in core size. Old was 6" and this is 9".

+3" on a 6" core = 50% increase

Congrats on the improvements, can't wait to see some better numbers.
You said thats the same size as my intercooler, and with my open bumper (G) my AITs say 10-15* above ambient @ 10psi in any gear

9 ÷ 6 = 1.5

Hence why I think Hal said 50% increase.

Regardless, I think the 9" tall core is a good improvement. Wouldn't it be less hassle to just make this the standard IC core rather than stocking two different sizes?
