Terry(TTfg35forT) runs a closed deck DE for his build.

Here is where my cam broke.

Yep. He gave a super deal on the one I needed.

"that is what mine were in the pictures."
hmm... My build was back in 05 so it couldn't have been same production

I didn't want to point fingers but that was what I assumed. No issues since with 15k miles.
BTW I have a DE

The bolt was fairly beat looking on mine so my tuner and I thought it was installed using an impact gun. When we sent the pictures to Jim Wolf that is the first thing he said as well!?! I just upgraded to C2s at that time he gave me a great deal on them and some valve springs.

First logical post i've seen. You don't go thousands of miles before something breaks due to improper installation, folks. It really sucks that this happens. I'm not super familiar with this build because it's a little before my time at S&R but I know that the OP is a friend of the shop and we've helped out with some issues that have been ironed out and will stand by him.

From what I hear, this isn't "common" but also not unheard of. Very unfortunate all the same.

I don't know what other issues people seem to be inferring with the +1 and This when "Questionable builds by S&R" was mentioned. There are no outstanding issues that I know of personally. If there are, I'd love to be filled in to see about helping out.

That logical post doesn't apply here, All the other cases posted were on either JWT or Stock DE Cams, not Stock HR cams. And even others have said this is likely caused by improper tightening using a impact gun.

How about the logic of "those cams were engineered for 300 crank hp, not 700"?

How many boosted and/or built HR's are there compared to DE's? Of course you will here about this on DE's more.

I agree, 7k miles and just now failed, definately a cam that was fatigued from being outside the power range it was engineered for.

Since when did they start installing cams in the combustion chamber?

RWHP should have nothing to do with it as long as they were installed properly and valves were not making contact with the pistons.

So you are saying that the extra torque the crank has that is turning the cam couldn't possibly affect this?

Since when did doubling the intended horse power of an engine not affect anything but the combustion chamber?

I will tell you what, take your body weight, devide it by two, get a rope designed to hold half your weight, find a bridge, tie the rope to it, then hang from the bridge by this rope. Let me know what happens when you exceed the design limits.

Possibly, sure. Anything is "Possible", but its alot more likely to snap the crank, timing chain etc.

But of course when you weaken a part by install error its going to break after 7k miles of high rpms and abuse.

Understand that, just doesn't make sense any other way. I know that the OP spoke with our engine builder after this happened. We DO NOT use impact tools for an install like this.
