I have heard alot of good things from users running the IPP and FP shortblocks.

However, with that being said, I prefer on working with a machine shop locally and doing all the work myself. What happens if something goes wrong? Do you want to be dealing with someone 15-30 minutes away or halfway around country? All depends on your means, and what your looking to do.

Injected Performance is another solid vendor to consider, especially if you're considering a sleeved block. My FP s1 shortblock has served me well.

Plenty of GTM motor failures out there and Sam not standing behind his work; always blaming something or someone else for the failure. Ask Alberto about GTM built motors.

^ Nice avatar.

My fully built NA rev monster is IPP. I've had no issues with their work. They build a lot of engines, too.

From what I gather the purchased short block route means shipping 2 directions for core exchange but the people that build them do more VQ35 than any local shop could ever hope to complete. This gives them more experience with how the components work together and what people do with the engine.

A good local shop can build based on parts you bring them and in some cases can be cheaper, but you need to make sure that shop is reputable and knows how to build motors for your application.

if it were me... and I have been a part of 3 builds...

I would preferably take my car to a single shop and have them do ALL the work -> tear down, build, tune

second best
buy a full long block from X and have Y install and tune

Third best
buy short block from X, have Y complete the longblock, install and tune

worst
buy short block from X, have Y complete the assembly, and Z tunes

The less cooks in the kitchen the better.

FWIW, my buddies GTM shortblock build is still running

Every vendor on this forum has had many failures. Some are better than others at sweeping them under the rug. Personally, I would not use FP for anything. Go with IPP if you're on a limited budget and don't need sleeves, or VTR if you have the cash and want to go all the way.

Definitely Hal and Eddie at Dynosty who used to be with Injected Performance. They have never had a problem with their short blocks, even with sleeves in them which I know is apparently a big no no on this forum. The are great guys and know more than most people. They have never had a motor fail and don't want to ruin their rep and let one fail now. I would give them a call or email them. They will build a block that will suit whatever your needs will be.

Thumbs up

I’m going through Intense for my motor build right now! Then ProEFI for tuning!

Alot of the build will have to do with the parts also... I know Eagles for instance, although a strong rod, sometimes you get 1/6 that isn't perfect for whatever the reason may be. I've heard of one instance where an eagle rod was assembled, motor ran, was tuned, car driven, etc... Car got pulled apart a few months later and the rod was like a solid quarter inch off.

I think the parts are as critical as the builder... It may sound great with what they have on their site and all the work they say they do, but in reality, what has their history shown. Strong parts and experience builders FTW.

Hal builds super nasty motors, probably one of the most consistent that I have seen from a vendor on this forum. Every customer of his that I have ever spoken to has always been ecstatic whether it was a DIY or shop install. If I had to have a shop build a motor for me, it would be Dynosty without question.
