I really believe that most of the aftermarket exhausts currently on the market for the Z are not large enough to efficiently support a V6 twin-turbo motor. Our estimated 400rwhp will most likely be with our own Turbo Exhaust.

Thanks

Darryl

my brother has a performance 350Z now i have already started to look into what would be the optimal way to break the magic 1000whp mark with the Z. obviously the block will have to be reinforced as it is a opendeck. that along with the rod and pistons will have to be replaced. i would retain the open deck as i did with my motor to keep the superior cooling capability of open deck motors (cooler cylinder temps = more boost = more power) but before id make that a definent id want to calculate the rod stroke ratio to see if it is exerting a high side wall load which can cause the cylinder sleeve to osilate or crack (rod ratio = rod length / stroke)........something in the 1.55-1.60 would be fine in the VQ if rpm are kept at about 7000rpm. now since the open deck has superior cooling this allows to use a higher compression ratio the the a closed deck would allow for the same amount of boost. well i this post was originally going to be about the turbo kit for the Z but i started going off on how i would build the bottom end.
Let me the be the first to tell you (unless you already knew).....you will not EVER see a 1000 hp (or anything remotely close to it) VQ35 - it simply is not possible to achieve for a variety of reasons.. Garnted, I am a big fan of the engine overall (I bought one, didn't I!), but its simply not possible to achieve...there is not that much room for growth without re-engineering the whole engine. If 1000 hp is what you crave, a properly built RB26 (also not an easy engine to coax 100 hp out of, but at least its possible with the right approach and the right funds) would be a far more sensible journey, and at least keeps in the Nissan family.

As for your theory on open vs closed deck, I won'y get into the technical aspects of each here. Suffice it to say that if you think you can run more boost on an open dekc motor you are sadly mistaken - they are inherently weaker across the board than a closed deck Now, whether you NEED to (or at what point it becomes necessary) close the deck on this particular engine is a whole other story. Noone has come close to reaching those limits yet, as noone has even broken 400 whp AFAIK in this country.

Do you honestly think it's impossible to make 1000hp on this motor? You've got to be kidding me. We are making 1000hp on 1.8l aluminum honda motors, 1000hp on a 3.5l v6 with a big bore and short stroke is much easier. It's a matter of going in and fixing the weak links. Nothing is impossible. We are making over 1200hp on a 2.7l 4 cyl. Why do you think it's impossible on the VQ?

There's already been 1000hp tested on a VQ35, granted most of everything has been changed, but it's been done.

Show it to me.......

I also have not any (that I recall) 1000 HP Honda B18's...not even the Pro series guys are making that much power yet last I checked.

Have you seen the heads yet? It's not going to happen unless a totally different casting is used.

I'm not being a naysayer here, just a realist I think.

Anyway, I am done...we can start another thread for this....back to Daryl's nice looking tubro kit

Call 858-693-3200, ask them. They told us they made 1000hp from one, if they BS'd then that's on them.

Skidazzle has over 400 whp at LOW boost. Z1, you haven't been paying attention.

Exactly, if people are making over 400whp at low boost then the heads can't be that bad. I'm not saying 1000hp is easy, but when you are building an engine for those power levels you aren't doing an easy project. This engine is fairly new and don't think that because nobody has made 1000hp that it can't be done. I GUARANTEE you we could build one...

Juns car made 850rwhp and was working on the 1000 mark but they wreck it so I would say it can be done. Z1 if you do a search on the jun car you will find numbers an videos. Daryl any numbers yet. How is the ecu taking the e manage?

I'm pretty sure Adam is well aware of Michaels Z. Both of them go way back.

Exactly...Micheal and I are old chums. Not to take anythign away from his car (which I personally regard as nicest overall Z in the country right now, as it blends everything so seemlessly), but 400 at "low boost" is a far cry from 1000 hp at "high boost".

I will call AEBS tomorrow and get the scoop on this mysterious "1000 hp VQ". If they have, they have acheived what no other tuner int he world has come close to.

The JUN car (which is actually an Option Magazine car) I am very familar with.....more than many of you might realize. I'll try and get the real scoop on its output this week from my contacts in Japan.

That's fine. I was simply contradicting your definitive statement of NO 400 WHP Z's EXIST and hopefully calling into question the validity of the rest of your doubtful comments on the future of the VQ.
