1200cc inj/ FI build... Ingition amp??
I searched around on this and found jack squat:
https://my350z.com/forum/search.php?searchid=14408211
Igntions amplifiers: HKS, Sun, Circuit Sports,Ken Bell
not like i need to run down and buy this today, but im curious if anyone runs one of these on thier car after going FI.
I had an HKS on my NA Z32 and it was of course.. totally pointless. So..
I couldnt imagine a huge need for it on a stocker or bolt on, but if were really worried about detonation , and have the maps for the occasional e85.. would this be a prudent investment? And if thats a yes.. is there a difference in brands? HKS appears twice the price, but all thier stuff is ALWAYS twice the price.
I understand it doenst add power etc.. but does it really allow a better running car, better combustion, and possibly safer FI explosions in there?
Can the stock coils handle the step up voltage of 16.5 volts these things put out?
Thanks for any advice, info, or experience.
EDIT: for anyone who searches later on in life and views the thread, the guys whove responded are big on the FI boards on the forum.. listen to em, i do.

If you have your setup done right, with proper ECU....you don't need this.
The highest hp VQ's don't use ingnition amplifiers....you have a coil on each cylinder already.
I know some folks have said they saw huge improvements, but they were running less than ideal computers (compared to whats available now), and probably had some sort of electrical gremlin hiding (grounds on these cars are annoying).
If you are at a point you "need" this on these cars start looking at other things first.

As said above, I don't think it would be of much benefit. If you could find a used HKS box and harness, probably would only cost $250-300. Your DW 1200's are just drop-ins right?

yeah makes sense..
Yeah the 1200s are drop ins.
Movement finally too.. cars comming back to town late tonight.
Left my car out there until there were parts to actually install.. guess theyre running out of room there. haha.

I tried the Ken Bell BAS on the dyno at 15 psi and I didn't see any difference supplying 16 volts to the coils. I did notice while data logging that without the BAS, voltage would drop below 12 volts at high rpm but it didn't affect power at all. With the BAS engaged, voltage would hold steady. So it did work, but it didn't have any effect on peak power.
I know use the boost-a-spark as a boost-a-pump and it does help me there!

did DW change them? I thought chris told me the new ones were 1300's. Maybe he made a type in our emails.

Yeah as other people have said you don't need it.
If your car is breaking up (later when things are all running) check out your spark plugs. If they are fine, and the tune looks good, and it's still breaking up THEN I'd look into upgrading your ignition system.
