It adds customizable inputs and outputs to the Haltech ECU (which stock has only 1 customizable output). Specifically with one CAN IO box, you get 4 analog inputs, 4 digital/pulsed inputs, and 4 digital/pulsed outputs.

For example you could define an input that represents an analog 0-5v input and use that as a manual boost controller, or you could read fuel pressure and trigger a relay to cut boost if pressure drops. Also since all axes on Haltech maps are customizable one of your generic inputs could supplant a stock input. For example you can define an analog input as fuel temperature and another as fuel pressure and use those two as axes to affect injector trims. The possibilities are endless.

My primary uses will be to control my exhaust cut outs using the TPS as a digital switch and setting up fail safes to cut boost under certain conditions. I may also switch over my radiator fan control to the Haltech so that the fans kick on if the trans or oil temps climb since those coolers are currently in front of the radiator.

Cool... thx for the update

Fixed O2 control PID settings functionality
Fixed Transient Throttle Coolant Temp Corr functionality

What were the issues and or symptoms that were observed

Also in field testing Hal have you noticed any issues with the firmware upgrade from older versions. eg: is there a process we should follow for the upgrade that we shoiuld be aware of?

cutouts would be hard to control, so cutouts dont have stops. you let go of the switch to stop the motor. it will continue running the motor as long as you have the switch held. unless you can time control the outout, its gonna be tough.

i hope the I/O box does everything its advertised. as long as it adjusts/compenstates your maps based on the inputs, it should be good. no fuel pressure compensation is one of the biggest drawbacks with haltech

I figured out how to do fuel compensation using the injector trims

Also, my QTEC electronic controller just needs a negative ground trigger - that's it - and that's easy. It controls the application of power to the motors

I've played with the software and I really like the way they implemented it. Very intuitive - very cool. More compensation maps would have been nice, but I have every functional requirement I wanted taken care of, I think. I will let you know if it lets me down.

Many thanks to Hal and Dynosty for keeping me updated, answering all my questions and getting me a unit fast!

Is there a flex-fuel e85 feature yet like on the pro-efi?

You could use the GM sensor and tie it into an input to tell you the quantity of e85 in your tank but haltech doesn't do any map adjusting or switching so until that is implemented it wouldn't be able to adjust for it. or at least from what i know on the subject so far.

edit, i guess you could use that input and make a fuel compensation table from it if you knew exactly how much fuel you need to increase for e85.

^ You could use ethanol sensor input as a fuel/ignition/boost trim via the CAN IO Box to accomplish this

how hard would it be to calculate how much more fuel on each area of the map it would take using e85? would it be consistent over the entire map....say if you get X volt input from teh sensor saying you have e85 that would add 40% fuel but that would be over the entire map. What if it needs 40% increase in some areas and only 30% in other areas?

That seems do-able but very tricky (at least in my mind). In theory just a straight amount of percentage across the map would work but as i've noticed with my car it never follows logic these days.

You can wire it, so it Illuminates some pink LEDs when you hit boost. I know you would like that
