Default Launching your boosted car?

I apologize in advance if this is not in the right section.

Anyways, I was speaking to some friends about launching the car at the track, and a couple people now have mentioned to me about launching the car in second gear instead of first.

Does anyone on here do this?

Have you found more or less problems?

Thanks in advance guys!

you have one of the best launch and traction control systems on the market

set your antilag up, turn on the traction control and let it rip.

launch from 2nd? no way. it just takes practice and alot of seat time to get the feel for proper launch rpm that doesnt blow the tires off but doesnt bog. You really need bias-ply tires to do it correctly without fear of breaking an axle though.

I made a hundred passes or so on my local 1/8th mile on DR's no problem. Went out to a properly prepp'd 1/4, launched the same way, and broke.

Yea I have the two-step and traction control on set to 5500 rpms for launching.

Has anyone used the launch control feature too in conjunction with the two step and TC?

Whoever said to do that on a street car needs a proper **** in their mouth.

Dumbest $hit Ive read all week on here.

This isnt a SS bike thats geared like crazy so you ALMOST could do better launching in 2nd to not wheelie.

For me personally slipping the clutch in 1st is the only way IMHO to get a good launch! But i'm not dragger by any means!

4 years and you have not been to the drag strip. Well go try it. First gear second gear third gear. See what works best for you.

like 7.8ish (cant remember) at 91 in my 3600lb g35 around mid 400s on my vortech. only made 2 passes in the 1/4 before I broke the axle and went turbo. that slip was 8.0 at 91 with a lazy 1.91 60'

Jason says he leaves the TC settings alone and dials the launch control in for the track settings. Havent made a pass with my proefi though

Been there many times my friend, unfortunately my 60's are ****. Like 2.10's-2.40's, considering i'm running my stock wheel sizes. That's horrendously pathetic

I was just curious if anyone else had done this. I heard this from a few different people and wanted to check with the VQ community.

How are you setting up your launch control? Are you treating this separate from the two-step, or is this what your referring to in regards to launch control?

i'm talking about the launch control tab. I'm still working on getting the basics dialed in still, so havent even really looked at those other tables yet.

I would just try it with the traction control 1st. I doubt you will need much more than that. Thats all that the supra guys really seem to be doing anyhow.

I actually just tried my 2step yesterday and it hold rpms but doesnt antilag to build any boost. I havent really even looked at it much though, so cant help ya much, yet.

Be careful with how much you use the anti-lag. The extreme heat and raw fuel dump into the turbos will crack manifolds and shorten turbo life considerably.

With the power you are making I would think lauching "soft" and pedaling the car for traction might be your best method. What axles do you have now?

Went back to stocks axles... bought a set of level 2's, broke one on the street, replaced, broke again... might buy a set of pro-series at some point, but the opportunity cost for $70 an axle for stock replacements v.s 2k for pro-series is keeping me on stocks for a bit.

I'm using my two-step to build boost... I have mine at 5300 rpms and build ~4psi out the hole... Need to upgrade my wheel/ tire setup...

What's your experience thus far with the launch control? How effective is it? do you like it? do you not?

I learned that the hard way.

Passenger turbo had shaft play like a hooker... Kirk @ Boost lab has them now doing the upgraded thrust bearings and billet wheels.

I don't need 2-step to get 1.6 60ft but am getting one anyways to hopefully make my launches a little more consistent and rely on slipping the clutch a bit less..\ the no-lift shift might help my shifting too, since I won't loose as much boost between gears.

Word of advise for the 6MT crowd, either get some bias ply's or otherwise used to breaking axles with DR's on sticky tracks.
