Default Vortech - Replaced Cog Belt, Now Lower PSI

Sunday night, I was out and giving a friend a ride in my car. Did a First, Second, Third pull. At the top of third I heard the belt snap. I ordered the Gates 600 8MGT 20 Belt replacement. I installed that today, without issue.

Before the belt snapped around 6,500RPM, I was hitting 7-9lbs of boost.

Now I am hitting 5-6lbs of boost max. The car still seems to feel like it has a similar amount of WHP/WTQ.

Any thoughts of what I should check?

Thanks,

Johnny

well since boost is directly related to engine rpms, you just have to check things that cause the blower to spin.

I've also just realized, the prior owner has the Cog belt installed differently then the others I've seen. He has the belt running over top the cog idler pulley (so that the Cog teeth touch the smooth surface) and the belt is shaped like a triangle.

On the videos I've seen online, the cog belt is supposed to run underneath the cog idler pulley, so that the smooth surface of the idler runs along the back of the belt.

you have to be kidding? The belt is supposed to run under that idler pulley...the whole point of that idler is to keep tension on the cog pulley.

Belt slip, probably due to improper install.

Bought a car with a Vortech system. It has Cog supercharger pulleys. Belt snapped other day. I ordered the gates 600 8MGT 20 belt to replace it. I had to adjust the tensioner all the way out for the new belt. A day later all the cog teeth tore off. I was under impression there was only one size belt for the cogs. But it would appear I need a smaller one. The belt that snapped was "Tiger brand" and was the same size but felt much tighter and the tensioner was all the way down at the bottom. It was a 600 8M 20 belt

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
By the way. When I attempt to install it underneath the idler. The belt would still be lose with the adjustment all the way down. The idler would be hitting the impeller cog it was adjusted so low

600-8MGT-20 (75 Tooth) is the Right Belt for a Vortech DE Kit, Rev-up is a shorter Belt I think a 560 (70 Tooth) ?

What is your Kit, DE or Revup, and are your Cog pulleys changed from stock. (Stock DE is 32T on Jack Shaft, 28T on Blower)

Adjustment Needs to be 3/8-1/2 of Play, Dead Cold....

Its a 6MT 2005, so Its Rev-Up. I have no idea if its a different size, I've only seen posts about the 600-8MGT-20.

I'm pushing 8-9lbs boost with a 3.11 (or 3.12) stock Rev-Up size pulley. I was under the impression the cogs were either 32/28, or 34/32, whichever is appropriate for the Rev Up.

Ya, the revup is a different bracket and different center to center from blower cog to jaskshaft cog.

I'm 99.9% sure you need a Gates PowerGrip GT2 560-8MGT-20 (70 tooth)

http://www.royalsupply.com/store/pc/...005-p17521.htm

This should help you.....

And remember adjustment is very important. to tight or to loose is cause for them to snap or chip teeth.
3/8 to 1/2 play , dead cold.

Thank you so vary much!! Will order new belt tomorrow.

By the way, the boost issue, was because my serp belt needs replaced/tightened, and it slipped 1-rib off the jackshaft serp pulley. I moved it back over, and got back into 8-9lbs of boost, slightly before shredding my new (and apparently wrong sized) cog belt.

The Serp Belt needs to be pretty tight. Being to loose could cause it to skip.

I got the 560 8GT 20 belts a few days ago. I installed one. They actually fit tight, however, they still only fit OVER the idler pulley. When I attempt to put the 560 belt below the smooth idler pulley, I can slide the adjustment all the way down until it is making contact with the S/C cog pulley, and the belt is still incredibly loose. So I am currently running it over the idler pulley for now (Like it was when I purchased the car).

Perhaps I'll get a few pics/video's and maybe someone can point out something I am missing.

Thanks

*Edit* Might be important to note, I counted the teeth, and I have a 32/28 Cog setup currently. I could have sworn Rev-Up was supposed to be a 34/32.

Perhaps thats why even the 560MM is not short enough

https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...or-pulley.html

You have a rev-up bracket with DE Cogs (32/28)

Verify Rev-up Cogs, I think 32 Jack Shaft / 30 Supercharger.

1. You can get the right cog pulleys, yours look very worn anyway, because of incorrect installation.

2. Or Do what Jet Mech did, see attached.
