You can also make a large change in overall gear ratio by changing the diamater of the rear tires. Play with the gear ratio calulator in the engine and drivetrain section to get what you would like, lots easyer than dong the math.

It also depends if you got traction or not.

ive been on the fence about staying N/A and getting 3.9 or 4.08 gears VS going FI and keeping the stock 3.5. i was curious about the 3.7 but can someone elaborate why 3.7 is "useless" instead of just stating that its useless.

i have a completely stock 06 rev up roadster btw in case it matters so i do have that extra 400-500 rpm

The 3.7 swap is more useful for an auto trans guy with the 3.3 final drive who is staying NA. Going from 3.5 on a 6MT to 3.7 wouldn't be enough of a difference to justify the cost and labor for the gear swap.

I will be going thru with this dilemma of the issue of traction with my build as well. But I believe I am on the right path with what I will have. Im running a Quaife LSD w/ 4.083 FD and 14lb Flywheel currently because I was a diehard NA fanatic. But since I bought a Vortech with 3.12 pulley I may have less traction, however with Vortechs there isn't a lot if unbearable torque since power delivery is more linear not like turbos. So the only control to this really is wider, stickier tires and throttle control. Will find out after I install and tune.

Going from 26 to 28" tall tires is a huge difference in gear for the Z.

FI type: Vortech V3 SCi with 3.12 Pulley
Engine Displacement: 3.5L Stock
RWHP: 436 RWHP / 368 TQ
6MT or 5AT: 6mt
Rear tire size: 285/35/18
LSD type/brand/settings: Quaife 1.5 LSD
Half Shafts: OEM
Ring/Pinion Gearing Ratio: 4.083
Typical Use: Daily Driven, Street & Occasional Spirited Driving
Likes/Dislikes Regarding Gearing: 1st gear is useless, traction wise. Would prefer having a 3.7 or 3.5 final drive again.

I'm on the fence for the 3.3 swap, if you want 200+ mph 3.3 seems like the way to go. I wouldn't make the gearing a function of power as much as use of the car.
I'm curious about doing this. I want/NEED more fun!!

Put on a smaller overall diameter wheel/tire on the back to see how you like it.

Taywan, you'r car will feel like it has gobs more trq. It honestly makes 1st gear useless but at the same time useless and nutty can be fun.

I may start a build over the winter on the spare block but I'd still like to have it for the meantime.
