Default "New guy" GReddy twins build

Hey guys, my name is Cam. I've been a member (lurker rather) for a few years but haven't posted at all, but I'm building the Z so I figured it's a good time to start.



Enough about that though, the car is an '04 Superblack Enthusiast.
As it sits it has basic bolt ons and such: JWT clutch/flywheel, Berk HFCs, Borla TDE, Motordyne 5/16" isothermal plenum spacer, K&N intake, RPF1s, Eibach coilovers, OEM LED tail lights, and some other minor things. However, I just got a really good deal on a GReddy 18G kit (complete, optional intercooler) from Z1. It came in a few weeks ago. I'm sure everyone knows what it looks like, so no need for too many pics.



The machine work is being done by C-Tech Performance in Wyoming, MI. I'm out of state at the moment, but I'm starting to tear out the motor when I get the time (very soon hopefully). Within the next couple of days I'm ordering the Wiseco .20 over pistons/Eagle rods set from Z1, either Cosworth or Dynosty head gaskets, ARP L19 head studs/main studs kit, Rev-up oil pump, Mishimoto radiator, etc. Also probably going to look into a CJM fuel return kit and bigger injectors. I'm installing the turbo kit and motor in my garage with a few buddies.

As for tuning, I haven't made up my mind yet. I'd rather use UpRev, but I already have Emanage Ultimate from the kit (I'm aware that almost no one uses it). What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading, any constructive criticism would be appreciated. I'm hoping to be finished by April, but I know how that goes.

Pretty sweet - I'm just curious what did you pay (within $100 or so, you don't have to be exact) for the turbo kit?


I would add a few things to your list, nothing too expensive but add an oil cooler, something bigger than 12"x6"x2" (144cubic inches)…I would try to find something that is approximately 24"x18"x3"(1296cubic inches)…a good analogy is coolant cools your block and your radiator cools the coolant, but what cools your internals and turbos? the engine oil does and what cools the engine oil? A good used oil cooler can be bought for $200 - look what C&R, fluidyne and setrab - it's only my opinion but I think mishimoto is overrated.

I would also add a engine torque dampener pretty basic($150) - will save your engine mounts.

I would also add the ATI harmonic dampening crank pulley($400).

I have a similar build coming, have the 18g kit that I am going to swap over to the 20g…I'm going with a C&R radiator a C&R oil cooler/radiator combo. I have the Haltech Platinum ECU and I went with Deatschwerks 600cc injectors all on ImportPartsPros stage3 block…

If you are planning on tuning yourself go with whatever you are comfortable with. If you are going to a tuner ask them what they are most familiar with. Some earlier builds have been tuned with the Emanage. It's just not popular for our cars.

I would also recommend a turbo oil feed line/return line upgrade. Several venders have the oil feed kits available. I had to piecemeal a oil return line. I would recommend getting some extended dump tube pipes as well. The 18g doesn't have the long ones.

Don't use the emanage to tune with. The tune will make or break your build, don't cut corners

I'm not tuning it myself; I haven't ever tried it and don't have time to learn right now. I was planning on getting an oil cooler, I just forgot to list it. I'll look into the oil return lines though, thanks.

From my understanding (which may be incorrect) the Emanage Blue sucked but the Emanage Ultimate is alright. I've been leaning toward UpRev anyway, but my intention wasn't to cut corners at all.

When I was on the phone with C-Tech last week they said they had just finished building another VQ35 that day for a twin turbo setup. I guess there are more Z enthusiasts and forum members from Michigan than I thought haha.

Id ditch the emange and go with the Osiris. Who will be doing the tuning??

Yeah, I opened the unmarked box with the Emanage in it and it turns out it's a blue. No way in hell I'm using it.
I haven't decided yet; possibly Dynosty because my girlfriend lives nearby.

In other news, ordering internals tomorrow.

see if you can sell the emanange and then get the haltech and have dynosty tune it then.

It's for sale in classifieds but I'm not so sure anyone will buy it haha. I'll probably upgrade to a Haltech and E85 next winter; for this year I'm just going to run UpRev.

-Eagle rods
-Wiseco 8.8:1 96mm pistons
-ACL bearings
-ARP main studs
-HR head bolts (will replace with L19 studs when they're available)
-HR headgaskets
-Rev-up oil pump
-OEM water pump
-NGK -1 spark plugs

I have this same build on my G35...some extra things I got at the end but where realy realy good:
-Nismo thermostat
-ATI Damper
-Mishimoto rad hoses kit
-Mishimoto rad
-Pathfinder cooling mod (for me a MUST!)
-Complete time chain kit (my car had 75K miles)
-Stillen oil cooler
-Greddy catch can
-GTM fuel rails
-Wastegates Atmosphere Dumps

Also, you "should" upgrade your BOV to Tial 50mm...kust in case you go for more power on future. And go Osiris....you will love the driveability!

I used to live in Wyoming, MI ..I live an hour south now....impossible to find a dyno tuner near by, does C-Tech Performance do dyno tuning?

Yeah, but I'm using UpRev so I'm probably going to drive it down to Dynosty when it's finished.

Made some progress today, though I couldn't get the Z into the barn until about 2pm. I got my pistons, rods, studs, gaskets, pumps, etc. from Z1 this morning. When I got home from work I removed the hood, intake, plenum, etc. and made a path for the engine out of the front.
