5th gear Not very smooth curve. Timing is set to 7.5-11.5 degrees at full boost.. AF/R are around 11.8-12, but I was running open dumps so they couldn't hook up the meter

Ouch man. You think it's the turbo? The kit? Bad seals? I was thinking you would be at 350hp or so

damn I was thinking you would be at least 300whp. Torque is decent for the type of kit you have tho

My brother who was going to school that had the dyno said it wasn't normal for the car to bounce. They had to kinda ghetto the rear straps because they were so close to the rear tires, but based on my quarter mile time the horsepower seems right for 5psi(I've seen it hit 7.8psi at higher rpms) I'll have to hook my laptop up(no boost gauge in caar) get on the highway and see what it's boosting now, but working on prepping and painting my front bumper(been unpainted for a year and a half)

Very Retarded Ignition Timing! On a Vq with about 8psi Timing should be more like 15-18 degrees full advance @ full load and then increase to about 17-20 degrees full advance @ redline. Just ballpark numbers.

I'll start increasing and check for knock when I get a chance or can use the map on the right and fix the 100 column the smooth it out from 70-100 and see how that goes.

With as much experience as you have, any idea how much I'm losing because of the timing.

My map on the left vs an aps 550cc map (both taken from turboxs website)

Not bad RWHP (power to the ground), Looks like the pull starts about 3k?

Especially, for a small turbo with a .little T-3 hotside, Have you checked turbine back pressure VS boost?

There should be some room for improving. (tune)

It was around 3k. The dyno there went by MPH I'll look it up so see what speed it was. Topped out around 150mph.

Do you mean the back pressure of the exhaust or boost at output of turbo vs manifold boost pressure?

hey only just seen your thread good work i started my diy rearmount november 2013 still ongoing haven't blown the engine yet see you had the same problem as me people slating the project because your not using hks garrett etc i found 90% of this was coming from people who cant do the work themselves, have no actual experience of what their talking about and are actually just repeating something they heard and didn't really understand anyway
keep up the good work

if you get the time check out my build.

Pre-turbine manifold pressure vs compressor pressure.

It is a great measure of performance. Less than 2 : 1 Turbine - compressor is good.

I have no idea how to test that, but from multiple people I have leaned that my timing is very retarded and I'm losing a lot of whp from it

$50 50mm ebay Wastegate(didnt use)
$50 38mm emusa wastegate
$26 Copper Gasket for wg
$14 Tial 5psi wg spring
$23 oil filter sanwich plate
$20 50mm wastegate piping(didnt use)
$30 RFL BOV(this was optional)
$25 Graphite gasket sheet
$6 furnace cement(not on there anymore)

Sold free exhaust I had on car for $500 and bought wider tires and an e-cutout for around $500($414 free mouting/balance because I have the machine)

I think one thing to add for any newbies looking at this cost number, you have to put into account your ability to DIY/Improvise/self tune the setup, which is pretty hard to quantify/priceless....

Small update. Since I had the turbo installed I have had an engine code for cats(O2 sensors).

Two weeks it started hesitating in boost in 3rd gear/higher after advancing the timing and threw a code for multiple misfires.

I still had oem heat range denso iridiums that were only a few thousand miles old. I went back to old timing and misfires were still there.

I purchased NGK iridiums one heat range colder and installed them. Misfired went away and now I can actually get a sticker(haven't had once since 2013) since the ecu readied even under boost.

I will have to play with timings again

Utec can adjust the timings. It's more going to be highway pulls and logging to check knock. I don't think I am going to go too aggressive but the timing I have listed are very conservative from what I've been told.
I might just upload the aps tt timing map and see what happens.
