Default Come on guys..

So im tired of reading this in lots of FI threads. ("Super chargers that sit on top of the engine are roots-style")

A Roots-Style supercharger is completely different than a twin screw supercharger.

Just for informational purposes here is a link.

soooooo where has a roots style blower even been mentioned before you even brought it up? technically a roots blower isnt even a true super charger, a supercharger compresses the air inside the case such as centrifugal and whipples, a roots style is merely a air mover and just moves a large volume of air with the compression happening inside the intake.

You're asking too much, good sir.

Just read his last thread: https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exha...e-or-dual.html

People tried to ask him the same thing... to no avail.

Close but not entirely. It has been mentioned in FI threads. Even in the "FI for Noobs thread"

Here is actually a dictionary definition for supercharger:

A supercharger is an air compressor used for increasing the pressure, temperature, and density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine. This compressed air supplies a greater mass of oxygen per cycle of the engine to support combustion than available to a naturally aspirated engine, enabling for more fuel to be burned and more work to be done per cycle, thus allowing to increase the power produced by the engine.

Wow if you know so much about cars and such, enough to where you would like to belittle others, where is your car? I don't see one in your garage? Hmmm

You're definition is supporting his statement. He says the Roots blower only increases the volume of the air, the rest takes place in the intake. Therefore, according to your above definition, a Roots blower is not techincally a supercharger.

Wow love the cartoon! I think thats a great analogy for what's going on here. I'm glad you could put in your 2 cents. Crazy how people are these days. They can drop there G35 off at a shop and spend over 20k on a car and then think they know exactly how everyone else's works. Another thing I might add is that someone can even spend that much on a car and it probably doesn't even run 12's in the quarter. But hey thanks for your opinion its greatly appreciated.

Wait, you mean because I don't have my Z in my "Garage" on this forum that means that I don't own one?

A supercharger is an air compressor used for increasing the pressure, temperature, and density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine.

Lord help me explain this better. Ok here we go if you see the above section of the definition it states that its an "air compressor used for increasing the pressure, temperature, and density of air supplied to an internal combustion engine" This states that it is supplying "air pressure" to the engine. Which is exactly what a roots-style supercharger does. If it did not supply air pressure to the engine it would be useless and just a big shiny toy.

Roots blowers actively "suck" in air, thereby increasing the volume coming into the engine. They do not, and cannot compress air.

Just for informational purposes that the only kind of superchargers you can get for the z are either centrifugal or twin screw. Also that "roots-style" superchargers are completely different. Used on carbureted engines as more of a show piece.
