Default Engine Build

I have been looking and dont see alot of information on the horsepower capability of the Z1 VQ35 Basic Engine Rebuild Kit Level 3. I'm trying to find out if this will be a sufficiant bottom end if i only plan on hitting 550'ish with a vortech V2? It will be stock compression .20 overbored, with the L19's.

I've read that Eagle rods are good for over 600hp but it looks like most people are getting their numbers from other motors not the VQ. Has any one found the limits of them in the VQ?

My next question is about Wiseco Pistons, i've also read some threads about them but not enough to give me the confidence i would like to have. So can any one give me some more insite on to them?

Sorry for the real newbish questions! i would just call a engine builder back home but unfortunally thats not possible right now.

Plenty of guys have made over 700+ on the eagles. Longevity varies on a number of factors with a built motor. Quality control is one of the biggest issues with Eagle rods. Just make sure your builder checks them for straightness, as I have seen Eagle rods right from the factory that are not perfectly straight.

Wiseco pistons are a great piston for your goal. Affordable and reliable. If you think you have plans of going big power in the future, bite the bullet and over build with Carillo or Pauter rods.

You need to be looking at high quality bearings and HG's too... HKS makes a great HG and Clevite has numerous options for bearings. A lot of guys like ACL, but I personally am not a fan of ACL's.

I believe the limit was 898 whp on a DD dyno. Then it broke for str8dum1.

Well that's a lot more power than I plan on putting down!

ya sometimes stuff breaks.

With your build, I'd go for a 10:1 motor and bore to 97-100mm. Get more displacement in your motor for free.

Eagle or manley rods would be ok for that build.

Will the slight increase in displacement do any thing for me besides like add 5hp?? Also why do you sugest 10:1 over 10.3:1?

There is a local builder out side of base back in South Dakota. Name of shop is Pauls Repair, I have talked with a lot of people about their engine building skills and they the said shop is one of the best in South Dakota.
