Default E85 Built Motor Oil Consumption

Hi all,

So, after my car started pushing coolant I'm gearing up for a top engine rebuild (ARP L19's & HKS head gaskets), I initially set the scope to just pull the heads but my car also seems to burning a good bit of oil... I'm burning at least a quart per 1,000 miles right now, the consumption seemed to increase after I switched to E85 about 6k miles ago.

I'm running a built motor w/Wiseco 8:8.1 compression pistons & Brian Crower rods, Rotella T6 5W40 oil and I'm regularly running the car on E85.

Anyone else have similar consumption? I'll be doing a compression & leak-down test shortly too.

Thanks!

you ever send oil to blackstone for analysis?

E85 wont cause oil consumption. The increased power will, esp if your rings were not gapped appropriately

I haven’t, I think I will now though…

When I was on pump gas I was burning what I’d consider an acceptable amount of oil, since I’ve switched to E85 its roughly doubled… when I got the car back from the dyno I was running very rich though, AFR on E85 was in the high 7’s, I realized it after about 1,500 miles and then pulled some fuel to bring the AFR into the 9’s. I was wondering if that might’ve done it?
