Lets clear things up, im not knovking on your build, its sweet. Its different. Its just not something i would recommend.

The way i see it, its basically like knock off wheels. I see nothing wrong with them, im just more of a forged wheel type kind of guy and thats what i would recomend is all.

Your signature line says that NA is the expensive way to go slow.

Your comments are recommending NA because it is such a cheap way to go fast.

Someone hijack your account or something?

I think you have it confused. Hes saying that you can turbo a z for alot cheaper than 30k, what most spends to get it done. Hes saying that you can do it for 2k and he did it for 2k. So there isnt a need to spend 30k for it.

I see. So his build has a turbo? He did that for $2k? The freight on my motor and transmission was almost that much! Pretty much any one part or labor could be that much. I assume he runs high 12's, not low 12's in that case. It takes a ton of money to go beyond that point. Still, props to him for getting where he wanted to get as cheap as he possibly could. Different objectives from the op for sure.

Yea. Im not 100% on his build, but it was an ebay kit, and i recall he had problems with the wastegate spring. Hes running 12.9. All for 2k wich is good and cool, but at the same time, the turbo kit has me wary and i wouldnt put it on my car.

But its sweet that he did manage to do that for so cheapm fun daily for little to nothing i guess

Thread derailed!

Lol, I switched to a Emusa WG (tial replica) and an actual tial spring to fix boost creep issue I also have a hard cut of ignition if it boosts over 8psi which works flawless in the UTEC

Side note. I just sold my turbo wrangler with an $145 ebay turbo and the guy blew the bearings in the turbo a week after I sold it. Not sure what the problem was since I didn't have any problems with it

He was trying to say that the person who spent $30k for 400 n/a HP could have instead bought a crate motor for 10k, stay n/a with 400 very reliable HP and have $25k in your pocket. Can't disagree with the logic but then his specific $2k build was questioned and **** went south quick

RC Dash- I have way more than a few passes without issues, but I know it is not the norm. You have way more knowledge than I do, so if it doesn't seem feasible to you, I'd defer to your judgment.

dboyzalter- You cannot just ride out the factory transmission until it blows up. It will not even function properly with that much HP and TQ.
You may have a 5AT with higher line pressure - good deal

Hal was able to get higher whp #s but every run on the dyno was different after about 550 whp. He felt that meant something was slipping / causing wear and would lead to a negative outcome. So we decided to stop before that happened.

to the other folks>
All this talk of $$ and performance is useless banter. Spending money on performance upgrades is not about value. It's about desire. There is no "good deal". If you have the desire and the money, then go for it. If not, don't. It's a personal decision so no point comparing build costs. I wouldn't trade my car for any other and I've driven quite a few but that's my perspective.

MRG1981....would you mind informing the forum as to who did your "custom" trans build? I'd like to pursue that when/if my IPT built trans gives up...it would be MUCH appreciated along with what mods they do differently from other shops that build the jatco 5 AT.

Shep and jacks do not list anything for the jatco 5 AT on their websites.

I have emailed Shep to see what they might know or whom they might recommend.

My transmission was built by a Nissan Master Tech in Las Vegas. He was doing transmission builds on the side, but he only did 2 of them. Mine and Rude's. I actually don't know what he did differently, but since he did the rebuild (I had blown mine up; see SGP thread!), I have not had any transmission related issues. Considering the high temps here, that's pretty impressive. I will look through my records to see if I can find a list of what was done.

I'd appreciate that as you are able to use another 100-200 rwhp than most people...SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE! Since SFR and IPT charge 3700-4700 and yours was 9000, there HAS to be something of significance that your master tech was doing.

I think my 40 row transcooler and deeper titan, internally baffled trans pan (2 more qts.) should control the heat...just need more rwhp handling ability.

Thanks for the reply!
