Can one of you guys take a closeup photo of the end of the BOV? Unless I'm just way confused, my car definitely does not make this noise. I hear the whine of the belts and the turbine thingy but not the whistle you're talking about. I get major whoosh when shifting under boost, tho, of course.

Can you hear the audio in this video enough to tell if my car sounds different than yours?

Video of my G35 at the track (pardon the fact that I missed 3rd gear).

Also, here's another clip with the hood off made by my installer ...

I've heard a couple of Vortech's in person..and your sounds very normal. You dont necessarily get a loud whistle at shift...sorta like a whoooosh of air. The wire of your SC is normal too....its just a slight hmmmm at idle.

Thoughs were my exact thoughts when I backed my car out of the shop Yesterday. I'll talk to him later this morning . I'll see if his [quiet] is the same as my quiet and the brand name of filter

Booger, your descrition is my issue exactly as well. I have a K&N motorcycle air filter that installer put on but it doesn't seem to help. The whistle sounds almost like brake squeal and is very annoying!

I jsut came from the shop. The real bad whistle is gone .The intercooler piping that runs behined the compressor was touching it. So the sound resonates real bad through the piping .The mech. took a hunk of hose [ 3 inches of radiator hose] and split it .Tucked it between the piping and the compressor and between the piping and the wheel well . Boy was I happy with that .Sounds nice now . Im going to go ahead and put on the filter because I read some where today that if it is leaking by at all [ or just opening and closing] I want the air going in to be filtered .The BOV filter he was talking about was a KN...so nothing new

I did something similar to what justICE suggested over on G35Driver.com. I initially went to Home Depot to find the coupler and PVC elbow that justICE used. I couldn't find the elbow with threads on outside but did find a couple of similar ones w/o threads. However, I ended up finding a radiator hose with a 90 degree elbow and I cut it down to size instead. I then used a PVC coupler to attach the hose to the K&N filter. It drastically reduced the whistle, but there is still a slight one left (but it is not nearly as annoying!). The sole purpose of this set up is to slightly disrupt the air flow. In fact, if I just put one finger infront of the airflow (without anything attached) the whistle went away completely.

kzanard...

does that setup affect the "whoosh" sound when shifting gears during hard acceleration? The whistle drives me nuts (though from what people have said here, I don't think mine is as loud as others), but I like the pressure release sound when accelerating.

If the filter masks both sounds, I won't do it. If it just hides the whistle, I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the post, BTW!

mcduck, it does not seem to effect the "whoosh" between shifts at all and it is still very audible. I actually didn't like the whoosh at first but now I grin every time I hear it.
