Default what guages do I need??

alright I need some help deciding which gauges I need to buy, Ive been told different things so I figured I would ask you guys. I am installing the vortech sc on my g35 coupe with the split second box, i was gonna get teh apexi s-afc2 but my tuner told me not to. i was told to get a fuel pressure, oil pressure, and boost gauge, is that it? what about A/F or EGT?

I need some answers quick! What do I need?

Definitely get a wideband A/f gauge, the EGT is probably optional although I got one instead of the oil pressure gauge.

Mechnical boost gauges use a vaccuum line that runs all the way back to guage to generate the reading. An electronic unit send the signal back to the guage via a standand electrical wire. Theoretically, the electronice guage is more accurate and reliable, since you eliminate the possibility of a kicked vaccum line running back to the guage which could throw off the reading. Electronic boost guages are also more exepensive. I ended up going mechanical becuase I couldnt find an electronic guage with PSI readings...only BAR. Hope that makes sense.

Regarding which guages to get, I only wanted two gauges, so I chose boost and Wide Band O2. Fuel pressure and oil pressure are probably more useful in higher HP application. In an ideal world, I would get a full assortment of guages, but due to space and mounting contraints, I went with the two most important...in my opinion.

I think wideband guages are useless unless it has logging capabilities.

I disagree with that statement. It's helpful for dyno tuning, and more accurate than a tailpipe reading. Also useful while driving to observe AF levels...it's more of a safety issue...so you know you aren't running overly lean...I think that would be good to know.

I am using the Autometer A/F gauge driven by my PLX wideband controller so that it is 100% accurate. I like this setup since I can keep all of the gauges with the same theme plus I still have a digital readout on the PLX display.

yes, but how accurate can it be when it can't log data vs. the rpm? How can someone possibly read the RPM on the tach and read the readings on the guage at the same time?

I think that the point is you do not want to see any high readings on the display while driving that would indicate you are running lean. If you do see them, you can back off until you get the problem resolved. I would probably not use it for dynoing unless the dyno can accept the output from my controller. My 2¢
