ATI Bypass/Surge Valve
Quick question... For those of you that have the ATI kit, do you know if there is a way to adjust it? I have never looked at it before.
I know a couple guys with the vortec kit had some boost issues and by adjusting the bypass valve solved the problem.
I am asking because I am not 100% sure my car is hitting the boost that it should.

See now, the nice thing about the Vortech kit is that it comes with a built-in boost gauge (i.e. the ss box) so you don't have to wonder.
lol, just getting back at you from your "that's why the ATI kit is better" remarks in various Vortech threads

Thanks guys for your remarks...
I knew I could count on you Zimbo
The reason why this is so wierd is that we are getting 3 different PSI ratings with 3 different gauges. With one gauge I am hitting 8PSI, with another 10PSI and another almost 11PSI. (my problem here is I don't know which gauge is right.) Surely with the numbers my car is hitting it seems like 8PSI.
The other strange part of this is that I added new pulleys that increase the boost from the stock 7psi kit and nothing changed as far as boost or hp. This is why the lowest boost level makes the most sense to me.
Initially we thought the boost was working right but now we are not so sure after going to the dyno.
Booger, please confirm that you had a similar problem with a bypass valve and that when you adjusted it your boost started working correctly.
Thanks Ravaz for looking.

Yes...the BOV was adjusted all the way OUT. I wasnt getting into boost till late and would only make 7lb's . I put on a 9lb pulley and it did make better hp that I could feel .But then I adjusted the BOV and whooopy pulls much harder down low . I kept adjusting till I heard compessor surge {fluttering sound ] then I backed it off and the fluttering went away .So I think I got it adjusted right . I havent got it tune yet , but did take it up close to 6,000rpm's and had 8.5 lb's . You would think all BOV's should be adjustable , as each car is going to be a little different

your best bet is to get the vortech kit and do it right
:^)
sorry, couldnt resist!!
eS
ps- i also found that screwing IN the adjustment thread (effectively 'cloosing' the piston more/sooner) got me to spool boost sooner.... im right between 2-4in of vac. when i can audibly hear the valve seep shut........
by exposing more thread, i was not getting closure till already into boost, making the car feel WAY less effective.....
i have two of the same BOV's here, and they came (from the factory) with three threads of difference in the setting of them.... my bet is that you just need some finetuning!

Problem fixed. I'm hitting 10PSI. It was the bypass valve rubbing on something which was forcing it to stay open.
A big thanks goes out to the guys at Crawford for their hardwork and determination
This is obviously something the last shop (this car was at) forgot to check...

Thanks guys,
Its not a bad idea to check it if you feel you might not be making as much boost as you should. I was pretty sure the valve was the culprit. I'm just really glad Crawford found it. A leak like this can be a very frustrating thing.

Are you talking about the surge valve behind the bottom driver side bumper? Can you post a pic? Glad you got it squared away.
Are you driving it now? Ready to go nuts yet?

I'm not sure if my car is ready or not? I will talk to Doug today.
