Default Oil pan... Vortech back to stock

For those of you who have gone from your Vortech back to stock... what did you do about the hole in your oil pan?

Or does anyone have a guess as to how much it would cost to replace it/patch it up?

hmmm... I'm thinking it would cost a ton for the dealer or someone to install a new one...
Thoughts?

The tap is in the upper part of the pan which cannot easily be removed/replaced. You'd want to plug the hole.

It is above the oil level. Should be able to go to a hardware store and purchase a plug with NPT threads, same size plug sent by Vortech and install with silicone sealant.

Well, as of now I have a plug on my car (since the install didn't go to well). But my buddy was telling me he'd worry about the plug popping out because of the oil pressure which is put on the plug.

The plug should be good enough. Pressure in the pan??

really... hmmm... do you think it'll hold if I floor the car?
He just told me that there's pressure in the pan when the car is on, so I haven't been WOT my car lately (which is good because I've had the best gas milage ever, but bad becase... well it's no fun). Anyways, Is there no air/oil pressure in the pan?

Get a 3/8" NPT aluminum plug from summitracing.com or a local speed shop. That will thread into the whole and won't pop out or leak provided you use thread sealant.

So, is there or isn't there any air pressure or any type of pressure in the oil pan? My buddy told me that there's pressure in the oil pan which helps the oil keep circulating in the engine.

Your buddy is mechanically illiterate. The only mechanism which can pressurize the oil pan is combustion leakage past the piston rings. Assuming those are in good shape, pressure in the pan is negligible. Even assuming the rings are shot, every car since 1969 has been equipped with a PVC valve to vent any pressure build up in the pan.

Engine oil is circulated in the engine by a positive displacement oil pump, and returned to the pan by gravity. Any pressure in the pan would just fight gravity, and hinder oil flow. That's why the pan is vented.

yep...

the CC vebts thru a line to the intake inlet tube (aka Z tube) to help keep gaseous vapors and pressure from building up .....

my question is, WHY didnt you go forward with the install?? i assume youve received the vortech kit, but didnt get further than the oil pan???

do tell!

well, basically, we were doing the install... and stupid us (Dollar99, Me, and my "stupid friend" huducks) skipped the part where we check for the parts... bascially, vortech forgot to include some of the bolts that secure the vortech to the engine...
then after that, we went to homedepot to find some replacement bolts but none of them were the same strength... then my buddy (stupid one) broke the oil feed thing in the blower itself so we are in the process of fixing that... so baiscally we had to plug up the hole and go back to stock... anyways... we're waiting for everything to be fixed and delivered and should start and (hopefully) finish next week.
