Default Vortech broken pulley pics.

This is what happened to the pulley.

THe key part ripped right off so the pulley was spinning around the shaft without actually spinning the shaft.

Heres my temporary Brillo pad air filter. LOL
Thank god for all those Macguiver shows when I was young.

You can read more about my broken pulley in this thread.

OUCH.....

please keep us posted (forced and dollar)

hopefully it's a freak thing.....

jus curious, didya have the cog belt kinda loose?? i know mine put ALOT of strain on the comp. shaft if it was tight.... (hich it shouldnt be anyway), but the instructions only state to make it 'snug'... they should tellya to keep the cog belt/tensioner loose, so as to not have any compressor sound from it....

good luck; sorry to hear of this!

What is with the wear on the jackshaft cog pulley? Kinda looks like there was too much tension on it and the failed pulley...

Wow! That's pretty bad, dollar... Mine came loose like yours (as I noted in your other thread), but there was nowhere near that level of damage to the pulley. We were able to fix it by changing the washer/bolt type holding that pulley on.

Keep us posted on how things go with Vortech.

I noticed you have a filter material over the intercooler pipe . Are you still able to drive the car ? And was it hard to get the blower out ? I may have to do the same thing soon and wanted to know if I was going to have to rent a car or not . If you are driving it , how did you rig up the oil supply and oil drain ?

the material we used is like a scotch pad (used to wash those hard stubborn stains off of your dishes), and to plug up the oil feed tube, we first used a bolt that screwed in to the line. However, we turned the car on and the thing was still leaking oil. so we had to use a metal plug inside the line (about an inch long) and also use the same bolt with plumbers tape and it seemed to work fine.

We could remove the blower without removing the whole bracket assembly. You need to cut around the "glass composite" radiator shroud so you have enough room to manuver the blower out of there. There are 4 bolts holding the blower to the bracket. THe top 3 bolts are easy to remove. You will have problems removing the 4th bolt which is near the bottom of the blower. When I installed my blower, I did not use that 4th bolt for this exact reason.

Think I may be able to get to the 4th bolt thru the wheel well . Not sure .But what scares me is cutting on the thing . I think what you have cut is there to support the front end , and may weaken it .

Is not installing the 4th bolt common on diy installs? What was the reason for leaving it out. Just want to make sure my installer im paying 70hr puts in all nuts and bolts.

not installing the 4th bolt affects nothing, the blower is completely stable with the other 3,

he left it out so it could be removed easier, when i changed pulleys i could barely get to the third one, i dont think it would be possible to get to the 4th one. theres no way i could get to mine.

What is so hard about the 4th bolt then. If the front bumper is off etc. can it not be used?

its impossible to get to, doesnt matter if the bumper is off, the bolts are behind the blower, in order to get it off you have to remove the entire bracket.

THe thing you have to cut supports nothing. It is just a plastic shroud that covers the radiator. You only have to trim about an inch off anyways, just enough so you can wiggle the blower out of there. If you look at the pictures I posted, the plastic peice I'm talking about is where the plummers tape is sitting on. If you look to the right of it, you can tell its been trimmed.
About that 4th bolt. THe blower is perfectly stable and solid with just the 3 bolts. THe 4th bolt would be impossible to remove without removing the whole bracket and removing the whole bracket is a PITA. I left that 4th bolt out so if I ever needed to remove the blower, I could do so with just my hood open without removing the bumper or jacking up the car.

Well I'll "Hmmmm" right back at any implication that somehow leaving out the 4th bolt was the cause of Jimmy's problem.
