Wow you are lucky that the insurance covered that. I don't understand that. If they are treating it like a 46k car because of the mods, are they also charging you a premium for a 46k car? lol I didn't think any insurance company would cover that. If you had that much damage, wouldn't you have rather have them total the car out and just install the TT on a new Z? They're fixing a lot and that can cause you problems later. Water leaks and other stuff. Did you consider having the car totalled?

I think this varies tremendously from company to company. Some companies will deny coverage completely if you significantly modify your car. Others won't cover your damaged mods but will cover the "stock" car. I think you got lucky in your coverage choices.

It would have taken far longer, and far more expensive to to uninstall and install new stuff on a new car. The damage, although nasty looking, was entirely body panels, skirts, suspension, etc....nothing structural or frame related. They literally just unbolt pieces and put new NISSAN factory pieces on it. There is a bit of welding done in the rear....but it follows the lines of the factory welding....so there are no "new" welds or weak points. The front and sides suffered very superficial surface damage. The only impact done was the left rear corner.

If the frame was damaged, they would definately total it, but since it was repairable, I'd rather have them fix it. I might have also lost some money on the depreciation of the after-market parts.

Regarding the insurance...not really sure. They charged me the same rate, and nothing extra for the mods. BUt I would check with your insurance company. Also keep in mind that some of my after market parts are cheaper than the OEM parts, such as the suspension, wheels, etc....the OEM stuff is MORE expensive than the aftermarket items.

Looking good, I am sure you can't wait for it especially with the new brakes and other new goodies you got for it.

Although they don't advertise it, I think some of the insurance companies will pay for aftermarket parts (with a subjective ceiling value of course). My brothers car was damaged in a hail storm and it ruined about $4K in audio equipment (water damage). As long as it was "attached" to the vehicle, the claims adjuster covered it . . . at replacement value!!! USAA baby!

Depends on the insurance company. I would check before assuming anything. My first car back in '85 was a restored/modded '69 Z28. Had to pay extra premium to make sure I would get coverage needed to replace it.
