What specific rods and pistons for VQ motor build?
Hey guys...i have already ordered the PE TT kit and was thinking of building the engine at the same time. Just wondering what exact specifications of the rods and pistons do you guys recommend for this specific engine? Thanks in advance!
oh btw...i DID do a search and i found those pauter ti rods. I was just wondering though if other rods were sufficient as well such as crower? And as for the pistons..which brand and number do u guys recommend? The Z and the G35 should be the same specifications in respect to engine internals right?

Same parts for both. Pauter rods have been well tested in the VQ, and that's why many people are using them. Realistically, any quality rod and piston combination will be fine. The most important thing is the material used for the pistons (low, high, or zero silicon AL), and the person doing the engine machining and assembly. Those two pieces are critical for a successful buildup.
The thing I like about the Pauter rods is that they are PERFECT out of the box, and dont require and adjustment, further machining, or anything else. And they are strong as hell! This is not the case with other rod manufacturers....ask around.
I still have the lowest prices around on Pauter rods and Arias piston sets, so PM me if you are interested.
Here is a picture that Ravaz dug up that compares a stock VQ rod with a Pauter forged rod.
In regards to compression ratio, for a TT setup, I'd recommend anything between 8.5:1 and 9.1:1, depending on your ultimate power goals. If you are planning on 500-550whp, I'd go closer to 9.0:1....above that....go 8.5:1. If you go too low on the CR, you will loose some low end trq and throttle response, and your turbos will spool slower.
Good luck!

a) Pauter , Crower or Eagle rods.
and
b) CP , JE , ARIAS or Ross pistons ( 8.5-9.1 CR).
I would speculale since SGP has built so many motors to date , the curreent "running" majority is Pauter and CP. Soon to be surpassed by Pauter and ARIAS due to the successful GB by gg.
