I'm not concerned about "off topic" posts in this thread, so long as it is about getting a FI car to do all it can.

Yes it's about the APS Twin Turbo 350z Kit, but as we all know, the kit alone isn't going to let us do what we want to do.

LSD, Suspension, Tires, Wheels, Breaks, Aerodynamics, Gauges, Sensors, Clutches, flywheels, injectors, fuel pumps/systems, fuel computers, tuning, superchargers, turbo chargers, etc..etc...

So long these posts are about getting this to work together it's ok by me.

Thanks to everyone who continues to CONTRIBUTE to this thread, and of course all of the assistance I've received about making tje RIGHT decisions about this kit, and my car.

That's just it! The Quaife does not always provide a 50/50 split, rather it uses internal gearsets to continuously vary the split of power from left to right depending on traction/load. this is great for keeping the tires stuck to the road, but for launching a drag car RWD or FWD most people will prefer a true 50/50 split. That is why so many people simply weld the diff locked for drag only cars.

So what would happen if it had 50/50 to each wheel all the time? Would your car have "wheel hop"?

50/50 all the time (such as a welded diff) will cause both rear wheels to spin at the same speed all the time, so in turns one wheel will be scrubbing or chirping because it has to travel a different distance/speed than the inside/outside wheel.

True, but in theory, and most of the time in practice, the Quiaffe is striving for a nearly attaing the perfect 50/50 split during the launch, wihtout the obnixous clicking and chirping when driven on the street.

I think its a better setup for those that drive their car mostly on the street, but still want an outstanding setup for either a road of drag strip...without the need for adjustments to the system.

Personally, I would have it no other way.

Aside from what your mentioning here, gear driven Vs clutches has gotta be many times better in the durability factor.

You're gonna pay more now, but less later when you are going to have to service your DIFF when clutches/plates where out regardless of who makes it.

Now I don't know what the lifespan of a performance diff is, but again, you gotta figure gear driven is better.

If I could go to the gear driven I would.....I have a feeling my viscous LSD will not handle big power with any effectiveness at all. I had a KAAZ clutch type LSD for about 6 months and sold it. It was the most annoying mod I have ever done to any car I have ever owned. Clunk..bang..pop...clunk.....drove me CRAZY!!! Worked great for drifting though

I was recently referred to a KAAZ LSD, was there a problem with that DIFF, or was it just having to put up with the side affects?

I'm not a drifter, put road course, and want some better control on wheel spin.

I understand that a locking LSD will help with it, not that it solves wheel sping due to high horsepower.

I hope I don't come off as pushy, I feel we all have made good points. I just like being able to voice my oppinions about certain products I have experience with

Just keep in mind that with high power cars such as alpine and GQ's cars a quaife may not hold up to repeated drag launches, even with street tires.

Also for those that haven't driven a car with a Quaife before, it is not completely silent, in most applications there is an increase in gear whine, mostly audible at highway speeds. This to me would be more annoying than an occasional clunk or chirping tire during parking lot maneuvering... just my oppinion

Last thing I would like to mention to those considering a cluth type diff is that a properly maintained clutch LSD will outlast most other powertrain components in you car by far including engine, transmission, etc... Just change the diff fluid on a regular basis and do a good break-in when first installing it.

The LSD will always get quieter after some use, 6-months is not enough to even fully break in a diff. If break in isn't done properly, and fluid is changed, the diff will always clunk and be loud. My KAAZ is set to 2-way full lock, and is nearly silent now after about 2 years and 20,000 miles. When it starts clunking again, I know it is time to change the fluid.

No problem with the differential itself. It just changes the cars characteristics hugely.....especially on initial turn in and more so when getting on the power coming out of a corner. I drive the car daily so the noise just got on my nerves....no matter what I did to quiet it down. In parking lots people would look at me like something was broken on my car...it was that loud.

I drove a car with a Nismo LSD, and during low speed manuveures, such as in a parking lot, it was the most embarrasing thing I have ever experienced. Everyone was looking at me like I didnt know how to drive? Chrip, skid, chatter...LOL...it was aweful.

The Quaffe comes with a lifetime warranty...even if raced....so I am not sure if saying that they are not capable of continuous high WHP application is valid. I have seen few companies offer lifetime warranties...even when raced.

Borla's the only other company i've heard of doing something similar to that (1 million mile warranty on every exhaust).

You're not coming off pushy at all, I think most of us in this thread have seen what pushy is. You're far from it.

You're not selling the damn thing, and you're not flaming about something else.

You know I value your experienced opinion as you are doing what most us would dream about. Building & racing/drifting cars.

As always, thanks for the info, they are all good points, and with any mod minor/major, you need to consider them all and not just "so and so likes it" or "it costs more".

These are the most important points in my opion, and what I hope to contribute to the high horsepower (import) newbies (like myself) out there.

Default LSDs and TTs

Personally my LSD choices down to two:

a) Quafe if I can mate it to the 3.3 gearset. The 3.5s make 1st gear nearly worthless with TTs .

b) Cusco RS , set >60%. The RS provdes coil spring vs, cone loading which smooths engagement and minimizes the need for re-adjustment as the clutch plates wear.

Either way I will run RP max in the diff. I've used in on other LSDs and it quieted them down considerably.

I've ridden in and driven a Taurus SHO with a quaife and I had a quaife in my 97 Maxima a couple years ago.

In both those applications the quaife was silent and felt completely stock in normal driving. It was amazing in corner exits and great on the drag strip with slicks on my maxima.

When quaife makes a diff for the Z...I'm DEFINITELY in.

This is exactly how I feel about the LSD issue. If you are going to really really stress drag racing, then the clutch type NISMO is better. But it's not as good for the street IMO as posted above. For the reasons stated in the post above and other posts, I have always felt the Quaife is best for me. I plan to do some drag racing, but not limited to that, and I think the Quaife will be head and shoulders better than our stock viscous LSD for drag racing as well.
