First of all congratulations of your APS TT! You’re going to love it. I had mine done by GRD in Naperville, IL and I have had it our for a drive a few times this winter, weather allowing. The power is delivered so smooth.... silky smooth and when you stand on it.... The APS is nothing short of fantastic! Think if the scene from Star Wars as the Millennium Falcon makes the jump to Hyper Space for the first time.... And the stars streak past.... that’s how it feels. (Geeze what a metaphor.)

I am going to get my bottom end built up as soon as the parts come in. There seem to be a rush on 9.0:1 pistons, Paulter rods and ARP head studs.... I guess a lot of Z owners are building their engines this winter.

I am sure that you’re going to love it. Good luck!

Default 350z TT = Pony Crusher, New Kills to report..

Last thursday, coming from Oxnard going to the valley, begining from Camarillo just before "the hill", I came upon a Black Saleen and a Burgundy Vette.

I was 1/4 mile before the hill and they were 1/4 up the hill, I could see they were going at it, with the saleen behind the corvette (due to traffic).

I opted in and jumped on it. I was able to catch/pass the pair 1/2 up the hill (yes I was flying).

After passing the vette, it turns out to be an older lady! over 100.

So the saleen decides it wants to play with me instead.

There was traffic so things were fairly mellow going down the hill and through Thousand Oaks except for about 1/2 mile before the 23.

The saleen ends up in front of me, and there is a clear opening and I figure he's going to get on it, and he does as we see a puff of smoke from the pipes.

You can see that the driver is looking up into the mirror, expecting to watch my Z become a spec in few short moments.

S U R P R I S E I'm on his tail the for the entire run and the whole time he just keeps looking up/back.

So I figure this guys gotta be pretty pissed and I also figure he's going to keep going down the 101 and since I'm headed for the 23/118 i figure play time is over.

He actually starts to make some lane changes and it looks like he's also heading to the 23. We exchange some waves and I let him over.

He ends up in front of me and off and on down the 23 we exchange boost runs, and of course each time I am pulling him, but they aren't good runs due to traffic.

But by now I'm certain he's know I'm killing him, and I figure he's going to lay off, right? WRONG! So for about 15 minutes he keeps coming and each time it's the same thing.

we're approaching the curve to merge from the 23 to the 118E and traffic has finally cleared, just before the curve there is an on ramp, and this ricer civic pulls on, in front of me and starts to really get on it, fairly impressive initially, but of course I just boosted my way around him, he was definetly not expecting it.

So now I got the ricer civic and the saleen behind me, and it appears as if the civic is blocking the saleen.

So now the Saleen has gotta be completely pissed off with 2 imports in front of him and kicking his ***.

The saleen gets around the civic, I let him catch up to me, he's coming hard at this point.

I let him get within 2 car lenghts and I just hit it from, all of 4th, and most of 5th, this puts me into the 130 range, and him about 10 car lengths back

Since that was the first run where I was able to go all out, I figured by NOW the saleen would be done.

wrong again.... So all through the 118 until the last exit before the hill (I forget the name) we're making small runs, he catches up to me a couple times and exchange some waves.

He was cool considering that I pummeled him, you know how a lot of "hard core ford" peeps can be.

Anyone know who that might have been? I would have liked to find out what he was running. You could hear the supercharger when he got next to me.

I was thinking that he most likely figured I was running NOS and that I would run out of Juice or something.

Then on Saturday, around 10AM ont he 405N between victory and the 101, I caught up to a RED Cobra SVT with various stickers applied, I thought he would give me a run, we were cruising around 75/80, I let off a little to let him get close, I jumped on it and in a couple seconds I was over 100....

He seemed to be coming briefly but then clearly let off. I slowed down, he caught up, and gave me the thumbs up and he mouthed "no thanks" and pulled off to the 101.

I'm assuming he was being cool too, but I was surprised he couldn't bring it more than that.

So in either case, another couple ponies crushed!

That is really cool. I am tryin to talk my dad into a G35 with this kit. Figured he has worked his **** off his entire life and needs to have a fun/sleeper. The Cobra proably would have laid a good whoopin on you on the highway if it was an 03/04.

Figure it out Nick.... by your post you already know that the 03/04 Cobra is putting out 390 super-charged horses.
What you NEED to know is that Alpine is putting down close to that power AT THE WHEELS (according to his last posted dyno?) with with his APS Twin Turbo 350Z. With the Z being lighter along with plenty more Twin Turbo torque ( as compared to a super charger)....the WHOOPIN is going one way and one way only in this example....and that is on the Cobra

You got it Calimarc, I'm putting down 377RWHP on a DTS dyno, I haven't been to a DynoJet as of yet, however another car that actually had about 30 HP less than mine (due to it's current exhaust setup) posted OVER 400 on a dyno jet.

That should put be in the 420/430 range easily.

Like I said, when I jumped on it at 80 and ended up at 100something in about 2 seconds, it was clear that he COULDN'T bring it.

I'm not going to talk $hit since the guy was cool with the thumbs up and all.

Way to go Joe. I just don't have the b---s to drive like you on the street. I did take my APS TT roadster to the track two weeks ago and one of the instructors had a Viper but not with him that day. I let him drive my car, with me in it, and after about a 10 minute session he said that it felt like my car had more power than his Viper. My Dynojet test showed 404 RWHP and 372 torque.

What are your trap speeds? I would think its lower than a stock Viper since a regular GTS is trapping in the 120's. A 350Z with stock boost traps around 115mph.

My bad, I didn't know that the APS put down that kind of power. Guess thats what I get for bein a n00b.

Nick

ps. I am glad to see that APS does put down that kind of power.

I haven't run a 1/4 mi drag track yet so time or speeds. I was at Thunderhill which is a 3 mi road course with 15 curves. It was a real blast to drive.

Glad to see that you are on trhe track now, I sem to recall that you said you "did not track" your car?

Is it the boost or what?

I need to get back to track myself, and obviously do some 1/4's.

As I mentioned I am working on launching, as that would make all the difference.

I know I have a sub 12sec car, and that is all that really matters to me. The trick is for me to be able to do it.

I'm looking at getting some drag wheels/tires so that I can get 11" Mickey T's on there.

That outta take care of the luanching problem.

I don't think our cars with the TT on them actually have more power, I believe it has to do with the delivery.

As they are all motor, they need the whole RPM range to do what the Viper does best.

We're getting boost at 2500 and full boost at 3300 so our cars are actually giving you more 30% sooner than the viper and with the HP that the Viper has, you gotta move through gears whereas we can hang out in 2nd/3rd all day.

It's the sensation.

Now just imagine a viper, with SC or T/TT, and some gear changes?

In the 8psi or less range, I doubt anyone can punch into the 11's....at least it hasnt been done yet even with Drag Radials. Low 12's is more realistic.

once you raise the boost.....11's should easy.

The car as is, is a 12 second car.

I believe with the right driver, some lightening, and tires, the car should hit the high 11's and that is all that I meant by sub 12 sec.

I saw your updated Signature... How's that going? What are you going to do for fuel?

Everything is going pretty well. I am waiting on one stubborn crank bearing, but other than that..we're ok. I am guessing the engine will be ready in 7 days or so, with installation an initial testing donw within 2 weeks.

For Fuel, I've got the AAM return fuel system, Walbro 255, Aeromotive rising rate FPR, FPR plug and siphon kit, and 550cc injectors.

I see what you got for equipment, I meant what fuel are you going to run in your engine/fuel system, with this kind of HP?

Oh..IC...93 octane.

If you think about it like this...600whp should be doable.

You are looking at 100whp/cylinder. Hondas are running 400whp on pump has without issues....also 100whp/cylinder. I know this overly simplifies it, but gives you an idea that 600whp should be relatively acheivable on the VQ.

All that said, you never really know until we start tuning it. If we run into detonation issues or anything else unsual that we cant tune out , then we'll take whatever power numbers we can get.

Gothcya, I believe that 100 per cylinder is a bit simple, but like many things, it may work out to be that.

The problem is that pump fuel is not perfect, it's consistent, and it's not going tobe 100 per cylinder at crunch time.

As I mentioned here in California, it's understood, that our 91 pump fuel is good for about 500HP applications. I know that with 94 octane that are pushing 550-600 and they are NOT worried but guys running around with over 500HP applications on 91, are definetly jittery.

You are clearly fortunate to have 93. Obviously with tuning you will get all you can get, and as you said, You're just gonna have to accept whatever it is before pinging/detontation occurs.
