i really hope the 370Z will come out soon
don't get me wrong...the g37 is a nice car with the engine i want..but I'm not all into the luxury and premium price tag...I'd rather save $5k and get a Z

Herm.. they going with the dual intake thing.. how well would it work with turbo?
I'm also having mixed feelings about the new G..
*sigh*
I cant always wait for the next best car.. If I did that I would never have a car..

Got a copy of the August 2007 Road&Track comparo of the 335i and G37S.
They felt that Infiniti (Nissan) had improved on the ride quality, interior, comfort, and quietness but the performance was no better than the prior model. They had a listed curb weight of 3750lb.
Some of the numbers they got:
0-60 5.5s
0-100 13.5s
1/4mi 14.1s
60-0 121ft
80-0 218ft
Skidpad 0.86
Slalom 67.1mph
BMW was a good bit faster in acceleration as expected. They felt handling between the two cars was similar. Interestingly they had a clutch problem with the G37 - the pedal stuck to the floor. Hmmm, similar to what some of the 07 350Z drivers are complaining about, I'm sure the clutch assembly is similar if not the same.
Nice looking car. They also have an article looking at the 2008 Altima 3.5SE Coupe (vs the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT), the Altima checks in at 3200lbs. I have no problem with the weight of the 350Z or the G37, just wonder if thwey couldnt pare it down a bit. They say the 09 Z will be lighter, but we will see...

Performance is a huge disappointment, so much so I would not consider trading up - I expect a lot better delta for the hp and 200cc of displacement increase, with the higher top end rpm, too. I have C&D, Automobile, Edmunds, and Motor Trend road tests that all say the same thing - Performance isn't that much better (if at all, all things considered) and even the 2007 G35 Sedan is just about as good in Performance. I've driven a G35S recently, and it was pretty impressive over the last gen sedan.
The only dyno I've seen on this car so far was very disapointing - the difference in hp below 5000 rpms was not impressive over a standard VQ35DE. I get 242whp at 5200 rpm on the dynojet, a little over 230 ft-lbs torque - this dyno barely gets there for torque, despite 3.7 liters? This is on a Chassis Dyno which usually reads higher numbers than the Dynojet used for mine, wheels off and units bolted right to the hubs.

The new motor appears to have traded that traditional Nissan low end to midrange grunt with massive torque, for higher hp only available at higher rpms. Despite it's increase in displacement, I get as good or better torque numbers across the entire range. My current dyno shows HP numbers with 2-5 hp until ~5200 rpm (240 hp) when I run out of ooomph. By 5800 and the new motor keeps on going for an additional total of 40 hp to the wheels, but 90% of that is all up higher than 5500 rpm. How much time do you spend driving above 5500 rpm? Don't get me started on comparing to the 335i's curve.
I hope that was just a bad dyno - I am not impressed. When you look at lbs per whp vs. crank that 3750 is seriously getting up there. I figured my '04 was OK at a porky 3416 lbs, but they used a lot of light materials to keep it down to that weight - Al in some panels (e.g. trunk), etc.
At that weight, the G37 would be like driving my car with 2 extra people's worth of weight and not enough power to maybe more than just barely make up for it. F/R weight distribution is worse, too, but not by too much.
BIG disappointment. I hope some or many of these published numbers are just WRONG because they story they tell isn't a great one. Coupes are supposed to SPORT Coupes, not luxo-tugs...

Sometimes the next best car is the one you're driving.
Admittedly I'm a little jaded on the weight by also owning a sub-2400 lb significantly modded B13 SE-R, but still - OINK, OINK!!!

The article compares the 2007 G35 to the 2008 G37... Claims 20% improvement with comparison Dynos.

The first post that started this thread was about the Automobile Mag article with videos and pictures.
The prevous links to Automobile I thought were for pictures and a standard review article/video. I thought I stumbled on to something the board hadn't seen yet.
My bad...

The G37 is definitely a nice car, but it's tough call in terms of upgrading. The HR already has some N/A potential given the Z is a few hundred lbs. lighter.
I still have my 2003 Z, and I can't justify the need to move up to the G37 other than wanting 4 seats and a tiny bit more oomph.
GT-R on the other hand...

Of course, it is much more $$. At least it doesn't need much mods.
I'm going to be patient and see what the GT-R pricing would be while waiting to see the N/A potential of the G37.
