Default NISMO Low Temperature Thermostat

anyone using a low-temp thermo???

i have used em on watercraft before, but none in the automotive field...

im thinking, with FI, (and the enemy of heat being even more of an issue) a LT thermo would be perfect....

thoughts??

anything that allows the engine to run cooler is definitely a plus.....but, i'm wondering, if the temperature setting lower, thereby causing it to cycle more, wouldn't that add extra "wear and tear" to the part, or maybe even the water pump? or am i all screwed-up?

I run one plus the Nismo oil cooler as well. Going to have to lose the oil cooler when we mount the intercooler on our up coming project. Haven't had any negative effects with either. http://www.performancenissanparts.co...roducts_id=263

I think on an F-body or a mustang LT thermostats do wuite a bit more. Those cars seem to benefit from these cheapy mods quite a bit more than cars like the Z. The Zs engine has been so highly tuned, I almost think something like the LT thermo might be detrimental, at least in the MPG arena. I just dont forsee a big enough HP gain to warrant the install. Comments? Anyone dyno it with just a thermo? I would be curious what the gain is.

I don't think the benefit is from a HP gain... If you're going FI, your motor will run hotter, and this mod will help kick in the cooling of the motor sooner, rather than later when it's already running really hot...

A must have for FI, IMO

good on a car especially if you are a hard driver... our motors run very hot... any cooling you can do is a plus...

i'd have to agree with jason and Philthy...if you are running FI, something that would keep the engine running cooler will be very beneficial.

my only concern was what esemes brought up about running rich, but if 2003z is running lean, then there shouldn't be an issue. i wonder if there's any one else who can provide some opinion/proof on this. if it turns out to extend the life of the motor, then it would be a very good mod!

i've been looking into also getting the oil cooler, but for $1200, it better be pretty damn good! i never understood why it was so expensive. it's probably because it's got "nismo" written on it. i mean, it's jus' a sandwich adaptor, a few an fittings, and a heat exchanger! c'mon! but cooler oil makes for a happy engine

I had a hard time putting the oil cooler in my car because of the very high price. It is a nice unit and the quality is unmatched.... BUT... ya'... the price just doesn't work. That said, if something happened to my car, I would put another on. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it work with my up coming TT/intercooler. http://www.performancenissanparts.co...roducts_id=335

what would the problem be with the intercooler? wouldn't there be enough room to put the cooler in front of the intercooler?

We'll have to look really close, but the way the cooler mounts, the precut lines and the overall size leads us to believe we will have to lose it.

i know this is a little off topic, but i may have found an alternative to that ungodly expensive nismo oil cooler (sorry jeff, jason), and i know a lot of people hate stillen but here's a link anyway.
