I think the intake tube has a lot to do with it. I put a Z intake tube on my G35 coupe and it gave me 6 HP at the wheels.

I believe it could be the air duct and a bare plenum?

I'm thinking it's more due to the extra 200lbs of the coupe and some Nissan/Infiniti marketing.

My buddy's G35 sedan 6MT put down 230rwhp SAE-corrected on 89 octane and pinging (he's back to 93 now).

sorry, dont mean to disagree, but the weight would have nothing to do with the engine output.

marketing.... that could be part of it.

also, like notlwnf said, i think alot has to do with the intake.

Bear in mind that engine output can vary as much as 10hp between one 350 and another. My stock numbers were 230rwhp SAE-corrected while another Track model that dynoed after me put down 240rwhp SAE-corrected. Therefore, the 7fwhp difference between the coupe and 350 would be insignificant, yet enough to keep 350 owners happy. I mean, can you personally feel a 7fwhp difference? I can barely notice a 10rwhp difference.

A comparable example would be the Z-28/T-A and Corvette. Same engine and same performance, but both puts down the same amount of power, yet they are rated 40+fwhp different. It was a marketing ploy to keep Corvette owners happy.

Also, compare the 1/4 mile performance between the coupe and Z. Estimate how fast a Z w/ an extra 200-300lbs would be in the 1/4 mile.

Michael.
