5AT - Manumatic..
On average, making a few brake torque and non brake torque runs, which will get you better times, the Auto or the Manumatic, considering you shift perfectly @ redline w/ the manumatic. Any insight / thoughts?
2004.5 Coupe 5AT with 18" wheel and tire package and a Z-tube (no drop in K&N air filter).
Drag strip: Los Angeles County Raceway (http://www.lacr.net), 2700 ft. elevation.
First time out with about 1700 miles on the G35, temperatures ranged from high 90 to high 80 degrees fahrenheit. There was head/crosswind throughout the night, gusts up to 15 mph. Lots of dirt and sand blowing. Traction is always an issue at this drag strip. Best run of the night happened with the temperatures in the mid 80 degree range. It was a 15.182 @ 92.921 MPH obtained with brake torquing to roughly 1900 rpms. In-car of how I was launching all night: http://home.flash.net/~eldy/lacr.wmv.
Second time out with about 2300 miles on the car, temperatures cooler approximately 5 degrees, head/crosswind gusts down to approximately 10 MPH with somewhat less dust and sand in the air. Traction was more of a problem this day as most of my '60 times were in the mid 2.4 sec. range, up from mid-low 2.3 sec. last time out. Lots more wheelspin evident throughout 1st gear. No brake torquing this session because of the traction problems. Best time this time out was 15.223 @ 92.974 MPH achieved with my only sub 2.4 sec. '60 time of the night (2.398 sec.).
I consistently had better times in MM rather than D. When in D the car shifted at 6200 rpms in every gear. Using MM I varied my shift points to make the shift occur at approximately 6600 rpms. You need to shift sooner for the 1-2 shift than the 2-3 shift in order to avoid the rev limiter. Because of my trap speed there was no need to shift into 4th gear.
