G vs sti,300c,350z,m roadster
Hi I am going to be getting a second "fun" car in a month or two so I just recently started looking. I am thinking of 350z, G35 coupe, Subie STi (fast but ugly) , S54 M Roadster(kinda old), or 300-c(these are going to be oversold). I mt is a must and good aftermarket parts so I can make it quick. How does the G stack up to the STI performance wise? What kinda mods would I have to do to make it competive at the stoplight? I would guess they(g35) run a low 14 stock eh? Thanks,Matt

In fact, ALL of those cars are in completely different categories. First you need to figure out what you are going to be using the car for. Top-down beach cruising? Clearly the roadster. Fun luxury coupe? G35. More sports car, back-seat-less? Z. All out track car? Evo. Err, STi (I much prefer the Evo, but that is just me). Now, how the 300c got on that list I am not sure. Even with the SRT8 425hp hemi coming soon, that is a huge, heavy, Chrysler that I wouldn't put in the "fun" category. But they are cool with a huge engine. But, I am a little more open, twisty-road sort of a guy.
As far as the G stacking up against the STi performance-wise, as Shivak stated, you would need a lot. The 4WD is killer off the line and out of a turn. They really weren't meant to be compared from a performance perspective. If you are going for 1320 times, definitely get the STi over the G.
It all depends on what you want the car to do.

A FI g35 will indeed hang with a STi. A FI g35 will surely beat an sti on the long stretch.

a Z or G35 with built bottom end with Greddy or PE kit will eat that STi with that bigger turbo...the TD05-16G turbo in that Greddy Kit is good for over 600 rwhp on the 300Z...in the end, there is still no replacement for displacement and you dont have to give up anything in the class or looks department either...I would get the G35 if i were you...you wont regret it...

Since it's going to be your weekend car, you should lean towards the car that you find the most fun with no regards to practicality.
If you're only interested in stoplight races that never occur, buy a 300C. If you want to just have fun whenever you drive it, regardless of whether or not you're on a track, I'd shoot for a 350Z, STi or the S54 M Roadster. I've driven both the G and the Z. The Z is definitely more fun to drive but much less practical. But really, just get whatever pleases you the most. Just keep in mind: You don't actually have to live with it on a daily basis!
