Question G35 less problematic than 350Z ??

I would like your honest, OBJECTIVE opinion on this..... I have been browsing the forums on this and other 350Z websites for a while now (i'm looking to buy either a 350Z or G35C in about a year). I haven't really looked at the G35 forums though. The 350Z has a few issues that worry me, tranny, front wheel alignment problems, AND fragile paint/ thin sheet metal that dents very easily. Now, to be honest i do prefer the 350Z slightly over the G35C (sorry guys). However, if the G35C is less problematic, i would probably choose the G35C. So please give me honest feedback as to the issues i mentioned above (and any others which seem to plague the G35C). Much appreciated !

Nope, on the 2nd tranny, need a 3rd on the G35 coupe 6MT. My g/f drives this car, so it's not beaten on. Only 18K miles and Infiniti dealer refuses to give the 3rd tranny.

Damn ! (ref. 3rd tranny). I'm trying to stay "optimistic", but the more i read, the more i see myself staying with Subaru, and buying an STi instead. I just wish it looked more sporty (the STi).

I myself went from a Z go my G. I don't notice much difference in the two when it comes to service but I only had my z for 7 months.

I was thinking of buying a Z also but when I test drove the G I was sold. Also think about the 2-4 seat difference. As far as which one is more problematic you will have to research that because I and some G owners I know are very happy with our G's. Try G35Driver.com for more imformation on G's.

Too late now ut I did the deed.. I know own a 350Z. I'll deal with it as it comes but I know I am tired of special order parts (G- copue) and its bad enough I am paying major payments. SInce I have travelled both sides, I really dunno what to tell you other than it comes down to preference.

if you're buying an 4.5 05..i don't think you should worry.

remember most car forums just share their problems....and glory runs.

03...only major issue i have is slight tire roar(aftermarket rims). I would still buy the car...knowing this.

minor issues i've had
-window grease(eventually stopped on its own)

-passenger window not functioning(nissan replaced the window motor thingamajic)

-axel clicking (got used to it) I don't believe it's a safety issue.

No tranny issue i'm auto.

i'm at 25,000 miles

no regrets!...except i do know another z member with HORRIBLE TIRE ROAR!!!! i couldn't believe how loud it was...he refuses to get it fixed lol.

How about paint ??? Do you find it more fragile than previous cars you've owned ? (the Subaru paint is NOT very good either, it chips a little more easily than the 2 Honda cars i've owned before).
As for the model year of either G35 / or Z that i would get, it would be 2005 and up. (buying in spring 2006 if i can hold myself back that long ! )

i have a G, my sister has a 03 Z track she uses for AutoX. she has around 20K miles on her car, while i only have 1700. no problems with either car. Nissan did the TSB on the tire feathering problem on the Z with around 18K miles and even replace the tires for free. but i like my car better because is looks cool. ha. either is a good choice so theres no regret.

Nothing wrong with the paint on either my 350Z or my G - no issues. Brakes, tranny, window grease, drivers seat rocking, front tire problems, front rod replaced under warranty, those were issues with the Z. Seats frayed quickly at the edges, driver's seat feels good at first but too soft 10k later for a 180 lb person.
The G feels to me like it might share some of the same issues with the tranny, seems very tight but maybe a little under-spec'd for the power of the car (6MT). Brakes no issue (Brembos). P/S tires much better, too. Z stock stereos crap like most OEM. G Bose option a better OEM unit than most I've had.

Biggest difference is the Z rode very harsh compared to the G, w/o a big difference in handling or stiffness in the turns to justify it. Do miss those Z guages, tho' - that setup is hard to beat

I think you can't really go wrong with either the Z or the G... Both are great fun cars to drive. I got the G, because sometimes... I want that extra 3 seats for some friends, and it rode a little smoother than the Z. But hey, if you really deep down want a 2 seat sportier car... then get the Z.

A lot of times for cars in their first year of production... there are some issues you'll see all over the boards. The 04 & up... should not be a problem. I have 11,000miles... no problems...

Happy car hunting!

in the past 2 months I went from a 03 Cobra (465 rwhp) to a RX8 then a 350 Z and finally a G35 coupe --- ALL great cars in their own way

what can I say about the 03 Cobra - Major HP but raw and rough

the 8 was fun to drive above 4500 RPMs

the 350 Z I LOVED ..... great power and great looks - but I missed the sun or at least a sunroof and the ride was a little harsh. I also had to take it in for the dreaded "tire feathering" issue - good news is that Nissan replace the front tires for free. then there was the "road feeling" - when I was youger I probalbey would have liked feeling the center markers in a lane and the creak in my window when I hit them - as a older person I want a little "softer ride" but still road hugging ....

NET NET --- I miss the low profile of the Z - but the G35 coupe is
very very fun to drive and looks good - - - - - to an Old man as my daughter says ......

The seating position relative to the road was a big change - I wanted to get back that 2-3" or so that the G-driver sits a little higher relative to the pavement vs. my stock Z. I push the height all the way down, wish I could drop the seat another inch or so. And you have to admit there are times when back seats come in handy
