Default Break-in period for engine?

The manual states that you should let the engine break-in for
1200 miles. So far I have not floored the car or spun the motor
past 5,000 rpm's as the manual recommends. But boy is it hard.
What did some of you others do? My car now has 600 miles.

I know what you mean. Mine now has 1960 miles and I've opened her up a few times past 1200 miles.

Don't really know what to tell you to help the time pass by without WOT, but maybe a long weekend trip with some city driving? My daily commute is 55 miles with a mix of city and hwy, w/mostly bumper to bumper traffic. It was the weekends that made it sooooo hard to resist .

There's different theories on "break-in", but it just makes sense to not butcher the car while it's new...

Good luck and go for a long scenic drive...

Dont beat it but dont baby it either . Do what the manual says . You have enough miles on it not to worry .Dont take it past 5,000rpm but run it hard some times . Very the way you drive . Thats what I did on mine ...10,000 miles didnt burn a drop of oil . Did it on my 93 dodge truck....90,000 and it doesnt burn a drop of oil

Oh god. Here come the guys that say you should redline the engine every day during break-in. Yep, listen to 'em thats how you get an engine to run for years and years.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will continue to follow the manual.

By the way, the Z manual says 4000, not 5000 like you fancy G owners
