Default Want throaty sounding exhaust, which one?

I know we can't get Mustang sounding exhausts from our motors but I want to get close.

I love the deep, barky sounding exhausts. I think the Perf Nissan 350z in the Lexus 250 race had something like that. Nice deep roar.

I'd also like something light. Lighter than the stock setup if possible. I want to get some hi-flow cats too.

Any suggestions?

Also, is the cost of header install worth it for the performance gains? And will it help get me the sound I am after?

the nismo exhuast w/ test pipes or hi flow cats sound very throaty and loud... nothing like a mustang, more of a exotic sound... still loud and throaty though... you should definately try to get a sound clip of it before deciding on something that sounds like a mustang

Yeah, looking for clips...I know I like what I heard at the races. Kind of a deeper F1 sound.

I'll throw in my $0.02 ...

On my Roadster I've added the Nismo CAI, Headers and Cat-back Exhaust... in that order. With each I could tell an improvement in drive quality and sound. I am right at the level I wanted; any louder would be too much so I am holding off on the hi-flow cats for now.

If cost is a concern then you could probably skip the headers and go with a pop-charger instead of the CAI but IMHO you won't be as pleased with the final product.

The Nismo exhaust is lighter and looks better than stock. The other advantage is that the installation is simple.

the Injen is about as throaty as it gets - killer looks and a sounds that turns heads everywhere you go... it's way louder and meaner with High-flow cats than my previous GReddy EVO II was with test pipes (I also have Pro-1 Headers)... after everything's said and done, I wouldn't trade my Injen for anything else out there right now...

The two exhausts that I've had on my Z, are the Injen SES straight tip, and is great. It's deep, and throaty. The other exhaust was the JIC Bullet type 1 full titanium. This exhaust was awsome! The weight loss alone is worth it. The power gains are significant, and the sound is deep and smooth. The only problem with that one is the piping size is so big, it has trouble clearing the under chasis brace, sway bar, and diff cover under the car. But a friend of mine used header wrap around these trouble areas, and adjusted the exhaust as best he could to clear, and the noise pretty much stopped, since there's padding and heat insulation there now.

Stillen is a nice exhaust, not loud enough for my tastes. Nismo is very nice, i would always recomend this one, even though I don't have it, it's a very nice unit.
The new HKS exhaust looks awsome, and should be deeper sounding than most, due to the baffles attached to the mufflers.

Let us know which one you go with!

You say "turns heads" does this mean it's just frick'in way loud though? Deep and rumbl'in doesn't always have to be insanely loud.

So far I am thinking about the Nismo setup all throughout or this Injen. Either way, I'd do the headers/HF cats too for either setup.

I am *curious* about this post about these Flowmaster 80 series mufflers as well. I wish we had a section on here where everyone could post mp3s of their exhausts! Seems to make sense as often as it gets askd!

D'OH I just saw that link of all the exhausts. Of course they all would sound different with headers and HF Cats, but I'd guess they'd all just sound louder and more intense. Good basis though!
