I have a question for those of you who have completly did the install and have some miles afterwards... like to know if any problems with the spacer, vaccumm leaks, vibrations and clearance problems from what I read so far I get the feeling that most of you feel that the hardware supplied the bolts are too short, if so maybe this should not be a consumer prloblem..maybe the Vendor should replace them with the right ones?? stripping threads cause not enough threads are engaged SUCKS...

I bought new metric flange/head bolts from ACE HARDWARE, they had everything I needed for a perfect install.

With the new bolt sizes taken from my illustration, I added standard lock washers to every bolt on the plenum and used special metal/rubber washers for the center 6 bolts for superior sealing. I also bought longer bolts for the strut bar brackets. It cost me an extra $20 bucks, but now everything works perfectly and won't vibrate loose.

All I can say is I am very pleased with the end results and love the added power and engine growl. For $205 overall, it was well worth it!

can you list all the superior bolts/parts and modifications to the AAM instructions which wuold aid in an excellent install?

i find the AAM instructions kinda ambiguous.

wow the Ace stores around you guys rock! I went to 3 Aces and a bunch of other stores and they didn't have squat! I ordered from www.boltdepot.com. CHeap and fast service!

Yes...the ACE Hardware in Wheeling, IL. does rock! I couldn't believe it either when I found everything in the right bolt size, length and thread pitch. Every ACE is privately owned, so they do differ.

I took a pic of what I installed and will post it soon

*note* in my install, bolt number #9 (60mm) was replaced with a 65mm bolt with one standard washer and a lock washer. After the install I realized that it was actually better because of the .25" rise in the back of the plenum. So I need to change that on my illustration.

Did you get the bolts from the new kit or the old? I'm installing tomorrow night with the bolts from the revised kit and will report my results.

I got a set of 3 bolts form the revised kit which were 70mm. I used those as instructed in the center of the plenum back 3 positions. I used the OEM 60mm bolts and moved them forward as instructed. You can use the bolts AAM supplied 30mm bolts for the front most positions, but I just went ahead and bought all new flange/head bolts for the perimeter of the plenum. The end of each bolt came close to flush or a 1mm past the lower plenum when screwed in with the lock washer. Close to perfect IMO.

Oh, I see, so you bought longer bolts to accomodate the addition of your lock washers...gotcha.

Yes...but it's not why I used longer bolts. If you read back a little in the thread, you will see to retain the same amount of seated threads as OEM you will have to go with the bolts suggested in my illustration and confirmed by myself and others who have installed it.

example: 0.5"/13mm spacer at max equals or requires a longer bolt than 25mm. To equal the same amount of seated threads as OEM a bolt longer than 35mm is required. That's why I went with a 40mm bolt for the front four positions and lock washer for vibration

I can feel suction from bolts 1-6 and I'm wondering if I've tightened them enough. I couldn't source an inch-pound torque wrench so I am tightening them with a standard driver (handle like a screwdriver) instead of a wrench so as to only torque them hand tight.

I double checked bolt length and washers, but the directions don't specify where to put the 3 extra rubber washers, so I put them on 5, 2, and 4. Was that right?

Do I keep cranking until there is no more leak? How tight is 44-61 inch pounds? More than hand tight? I don't want to strip the threads.

44-66lbs inch is about 4-5 lbs foot. It means a 4-5lbs force at end of 1 foot long pole.

rubber washer goes under each center bolt. try torquing some more.

There are 6 thin washers supplied in the kit, the instructions refer to three of them for bolts 1, 3, 6. The reader is left to assume the remaining three are for the front bolts 5, 2, 4. Bad instructions, but safe assumption.

I tried torquing some more and a few got better, while #2 got worse. So I took a trip to Home Depot after reading back a few pages in this thread and bought some 100% rubber washers from the plumbing section...no more leaky, but I'm not sure this is the best solution. I will be speaking with AAM monday morning.
