Default Gruppe M intake

I take it, this doesnt have a bypass valve, based on Gruppe's recommendation not to drive full throttle in the rain?

The gruppeM intake basically acts both as a cai and ram air. The tube/hole under the box directly breathes colder air from wheel well at low speeds, while the big scoop forces air in at higher speeds. It's also couple lbs lighter than the stock airbox.

Was my first mod, and I did notice a better throttle response after install. [for what it's worth]At dragstrip I used to race against a stock Z for whole summer, dead even most of the time and same trap speed. After gruppeM install I was always ~1mph faster than him.[/for what it's worth].

THere is no bypass valve, would be useless.

next to impossible to ingest water imho. The filter(cone) sits at more or less same place as stock filter. The air scoop is well protected and still sits pretty high. To ingest water you would have to hit a like a 3-4 feet deep puddle...

The problem with the way the airbox and scoop are designed is that if it's really pouring, you will keep on sucking in water myst and will eventually soak your air filter. That's the reason of the reccomendation against driving at full throttle in heavy rain or extreme wet condition. (bypass useless).

honestly, haven't had a problem ever in 18months.

It rains here alot, and I will be driving at 65 - 75mph on the freeway for at least 20 miles.
Sounds like its not the way to go for me then.

pretty much all cold air intakes will soak up in the rain. Your best bet is either a short ram like the JWT popcharger, or a K&N filter drop in.
