Default simple question about plenum spacers...

ok i think i have decided on going for a stealth approach...so instead of a new plenum i will just get a spacer.

i was under the impression that certain spacers would have no stru-bar clearance issues, but when i read the AAM and Motordyne websites they both talk about using "strut bar spacers", even with the small Motordyne 1/4" spacer.

so do i need to raise the strut bar with any of plenum spacers?

TIA

Harv

Hi Harv,

We use the spacers for the strut bar becasue the clearance is very small and also the motor torques up slightly and can rub the bar. The clearance between the factory plenum and strut bar is less then 1/4" in certain spots.

I don't know about the AAM.

On the MD 1/4" spacer, you need to take the strut bar out anyway to install it and the kit comes with new bolts and spacers so on reassembly you just use them and you are good to go.

This is a picture with the spacer and strut bar spacers installed.

and there is no hood-clearance issues with either brand?

I have the AAM and it comes w/ spacers for the strut bar. In terms of clearances (ie: hood, strut bar, engine), I have no problems. For others who have installed it on their car, they had to play around with the number of spacers to use due to the strut bar rubbing on the hood and/or engine. For my install, 2 spacers for each bolt did the trick.

Motordyne you have to use new strut bar OR hood spacers dont like that look even though it cools the ambient temp under the hood 45-50 degrees, great for the track but mine is a daily driver and rain will get under the back of the hood so AAM is my choice to stay stock looking no new strut bar or raise the hood with spacers.

The Motordyne only needs the hood spacers if you opt to go with the 1/2 inch spacer, the 1/4 spacer retains the stock strut bar and comes with ALL the hardware you need to get lots of bite on all the threads and fits under the stock hood with room to spare.

The picture I posted above is an AFTER shot of my 1/4 inch plenum spacer install.

I second that. I got in on the Motordyne GB when it was on GDriver. It is an excellent product with no fitment issues. Tony at Motordyne is aces to deal with as well.

Oh, the results are noticable from this product. You won't be disappointed.
