Default Post your header dyno here!!

Can't really find any good dyno graphs from header installations, thought it might be a good idea to get them all in one thread. So, if you had headers installed, please post up before/after dyno graphs and/OR before/after impressions aka butt dynos. Please specify which brand headers you bought.

OK, I'll run thru the minefield first!

These charts were submitted by a customer to Strup. The first graph is showing his 350Z dynoed before the headers, with just an intake on it and cat.

The second graph is the same car later that day on the same dyno after the header was installed. There is an overlay of one of the baseline runs to show a comparison..

Enjoy!

We plan on working with someone local on the East coast in the near future to do the same test on their car too... we'll keep you all informed and let you know the results.

Wren, just realize that you're not going to be able to compare what headers do on a stock car to what you're running. You have all the mods I have, minus the exhaust and I'm running more HP than this guy with headers. So don't expect 15Hp....you may be better off getting a true dual exhaust.

DrVolkl,

Nice Z... So you are running 259whp consistently without headers and I'm guessing a ECU re-flash?

I am shooting for 270whp with the mods in my sig plus ECU reflash and TD exhaust...not sure if I really need the crank pulley or not?

ps sorry about the highjack, couldn't figure out how to delete it and just pm him...

Here is a dyno from Alphawerks. Our headers produce +21hp and +15tq proven.

I haven't had the ECU reflash yet...just the bolt ons. I'm looking at headers too, but I think the ecu reflash and perhaps even some cams are needed to get the full potential out of them. Some people are losing HP with headers and extra mods, probably due to the ecu not being to handle the extra air flow.

does this dyno represent just headers, or headers and test pipes?

Thanks DrVolkl... Looks like I could possibly hit the 270 mark if I get the other three elements...ie TD exhaust, relash, crank pulley. That will put me right at $3500 total!

wren57, I'll post my results soon...

That dyno represents headers alone.

....And an extremely low baseline for a 6-speed Z on a dynojet SAE corrected. I did 240 SAE baseline stock, at a minimum Id expect 230 whp on a dynojet but you guys somehow found the weakest Z on earth, or just used the lowest baseline, put on headers-which do give you power, but not what you say, and use that as an advertisement-congrats you are lying to yourself, and maybe newbs but not me....

i tend to agree with alberto....even the crawfords don't come close to that. the only conclusion that i can make is that these dynos are being manipulated. take a stock z, run crawfords, alpha's, nismos and the like on the same dyno and in exactly the same conditions and then i will be a believer.

a header shootout if you will....laterz

I believe the Alphawerks dynos used a car with 20" wheels. This can account for the low baseline. However, I still believe their might have been some minor manipulation or the results (ie selecting the lowest baseline and the highest after headers). Alphawerks did another set of dynos that are much more believable hitting a 15whp peak. Considering Topspeed, DC Sports and Nismo all hit around 8-10 whp at peak this isn't a bad number.

i'm not saying the alphawerks are substandard in performance at all...in fact i have stated that i would buy the alphawerks or the crawfords if i had a choice and the money to do so. i am only questioning the 21 hp numbers....seem a little on the high side to me thats all. when compared to other companies that are also known for high performance parts 15hp sounds more believable.

The alphawerks, strup, nismo, dc sports, and topspeed headers all the look the same to me. They might have basic changes, but the design looks the exact same. Its like someone over in china is making them and selling them to companies so they can put there own name on it.

To address all issues...

1. We have visited the issue of what the car baselines. Many many people here have seen baselines in that range. Sorry, but that is the truth about engines. Some come with more hp from the factory nothing can be done about that.

2. The 21whp gain was our best dyno to date. If you want to see other dynos that were not as good I will definitely link you to:

http://g35driver.com/forums/showthre...ght=alphawerks

There a member of the g35driver.com did a dyno and averaged 17whp gain. His best dyno was 19whp gain and his worst was a 14whp gain. I hope this puts things into perspective ...check out the dyno below I got from the post...

Take care all,
