Default Just installed popcharger; car cut off on highway...

Just wondering if this is anything I should be worried about. I had just finished installing it, double checked that everything was tightened down, etc. I started up in the driveway and everything was fine. Reved it up a bit, everything is good. Went for about 2 miles on the interstate with nothing but beautiful sound. Got on a second leg of the interstate (I-295) and floored it. After about 125 I let off and coasted. When I was ready to put it back into gear, after I had slowed down, I looked down and realized it had cut off. The check engine light was on and everything else seemed like I had just cut it off. So I started it back up while coasting, drove to the side and checked everything under the hood. Everything looks fine and I finished about another 5 miles without any further issues.

Has anyone else had this problem??? Should I be worried?????

some people's cars have had that problem

forgot what the cause was or if it was ever found. I think you gotta be careful to not let oil get thru the filter - don't over-oil it, lightly wipe it down with a papertowel or something before putting it on. If oil gets on the MAF sensor, stuff will suck

did you put the car into neutral when you were coasting? other people used to have the same problem when they'd get up to speed, and then shift into neutral while slowing down. make sure your maf sensor is clean and installed correctly. Ive never had that problem with my popcharger, but i also never slow down from high speeds with my car in neutral. i wouldn't be too worried if i was you. Just start downshifting while slowing down.

I had the same symptom in my Spec V after installing a cold air intake, although I can't say that you have the same root cause. Did you pull the MAF connector during installation? Apparently, the MAFs don't like being disconnected unless you disconnect the battery first. It took me several of these cutoffs before I came across the cause. I had to do an ECU reset and then it never happened again.

The install didn't say anything about oiling anything.

And no, I didn't disconnect the battery. I'm going for another ride here and I'll see what happens.

the popcharger doesn't need to be oiled when installed the first time. And I did not disconnect my battery when installing it, nor did i do an ecu reset. Wasn't there a recall or TSB on some MAF sensors for the Z?

If you floor it right after install it makes sense that the ECU might not know how to handle all the additional airflow yet. When I installed mine I drove cautiously for the first week.....after that I can go WOT and let off with no probs at all. One consistent thing I've seen with PopCharger cutoffs is that people are going WOT and then letting off. It stands to reason that if you let the ECU learn first you won't have issues.....at least that's what would make sense to me.

All it is is that the ECU needs to correct for the extra air. When I first put mine on it did that once. Now I call floor it on the interstate and then coast back down to speed and it does not shut off.

I just ran it for maybe an hour, nothing too crazy, and it was fine. I think it was just the ECU not knowing what's going on just yet. I'll update if anything else happens.

Once you change the intake, if you drive the car up to 5000RPM and higher and put it in neutral rite away and let the RPMs fall down, the car stalls...

10% of the time

I believe the consensus is that it is caused by the cone filter being placed so close to the MAF and giving it strange readings sometimes causing it enough problems to lose idle and stall out. When it happens just remind yourself that the intake was only $125 and everyone else on MY350Z has one.

I had my Nismo intake installed last Friday and while driving into work this morning, the car just won't move anymore. The Service light, TCS OFF, and SLIP lights came on. The engine was still on, but press the gas does not make the car move faster than 5 miles and hour. I even turned off the engine and turned it back on again and same time happened.

Is this the same issue you guys were seeing? If so, how do I fix this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I forget what they call it but it sounds like you're in "dummy" or "safe" mode (or whatever it's called). I can't find any topics right now but search and you will. Something needs to be reset I think.

I think it is called fail-safe mode. I am suspecting that it is either the differential or clutch as I have been getting grinding noises.

why the heck are you taking your car out of gear at 125???? To coast??? Is it just me
or is that what "everybody" does?? when I get going that fast...I'm still in gear so I'm still in control...
