First Mods: Is this a good combination?

I am considering getting a JWT air intake and a performance Y-Pipe as my first mods for my '05 Anniversary Edition. It this a good combination of mods to start with or should I use the $300 or so that these two items would cost and put it toward something else? I don't want to screw around with the car's catalytics or stock muffler, so off-road pipes or aftermarket exhaust sytems are not in the picture. Any recomendations from the resident wrenches here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yeah, I may be a little off on the cost, I was basing my estimate on EBay prices. Anyway, back to my original question...is this a good combination for a first mod?

Better do some research on the intake because the 300hp engine has not been used for much testing with aftermarket parts. Frankly, I would be surprised if even the pop charger improved on the oem intake. Other than a lower restriction filter, the stock intake appears to have the same features as the pop charger. I got a K&N filter and will wait for some R&D on this engine before wasting any money.
The y-pipe and Cats followed by headers are the generally accepted major performance inhibitors based on many posts on this forum. The intake is debatable. I ran a K&N drop-in for a while. For $39 that may be your best route until more data comes in on the 300HP engine.
I went to an aftermarket intake recently because I am wrapping up my mods and just wanted every base covered before I install headers and then get the ECU reflashed by TS or AAM. On the Z I see the intake as an optional bottom of the list upgrade. I am speaking from an NA point of view. FI is a whole nother animal that I am not versed enough to speak to on the Z.
A plenum or plenum spacer may be a better mod than the intake, but since the 05' has a redesigned lower plenum to address the past restrictions, I am not sure there is any further benefit beyond it.

JWT has got to be one of the easiest things i have installed on my Z. Great sound, and believe it of not, it improves throttle response. Sold mine, but loved every second i drove with it.

I thought the redesign came with the '06 and that the '05 still had the restriction problem. Am I mistaken?
Cheers.
I was wondering, I'm considering Y-pipe and HF cats too, would i really need a catback to get more power or could I stay stock look with as much power with the Y-pipe and HF cats?
Also what was that plenum mod that I saw around where the temperature remained cold? I can't recall that sponsor.
(Ok done hijacking your thread sorry)
