Default Injen CAI and Bumper Removal

I received my Injen intake but haven't installed it yet because the directions included with it are very poor IMO. I wanted to put in on yesterday since I had the day off from work but the installation calls for front bumper removal (or bumper cover..you cannot even tell from the instructions) and the directions for how to do this are simply a 1 picture diagram; no written instructions for the bumper removal and the diagram is not very clear.

Does anyone have experience with removing the front bumper and wouldn't mind posting some instructions? Or does anyone who has the Service manual mind checking if there are instructions for bumper removal?

I think Injen needs to do better then they did with these instructions. The entire instruction set seems thrown together at the last minute. The grounding kit I bought from Skidazzle (sp) had instructions that were much more thought out and professional.

Do a search for people who have installed the clear or LED finishing lights; I knwo at least one of the threads has posted a session on removing the bumber. PM me if you still have no luck. I have some stuff I might be able to send you.

Thanks. I found Skidazzle's post on the bumper removal. It is much better then what you get Included with the Injen CAI kit

Arrow Dumb Question

Do you have to remove the bumper with the AEM CAI?

I'm not down for something like that.

Because of where the end of the intake sits, yes you have to remove the bumper. Although I wouldn't be surpised if someone figures a way around it.

That changes everything,

I thought it was a *simple* bolt on.

I'll wait....... Removing a bumper is not a simple bolt on for me the non mech inclined.

Well, I still plan on doing the install since I alrady have the CAI, with Skidazzle's instructions I think I'll be able to manage. I'll let you know how it went once I am finished.

I foresee braking some of the plastic pop rivits so I am going to try to locate a source to buy a few of them before I do the install.

I think that I'm going to have the same problem. Let me know where you find the plastic pop rivits.

Check my past posts as I have a few pictures of the install. It's a pain in the ***. You need to remove the entire front bumper, INCLUDING the bottom cover. Expect a 2-3 hour install if you don't have a mechanic on hand and are doing it w/ one person.

Default Not that hard

The bumper removal was not that bad! It is quite easy actually, there is just a crap load of bolts to remove and keep track of – no problem.

Check out this fantastic link:

https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-and-interior/13357-sticky-me-how-to-for-front-bumper-removal-sidemarker-install.html

The entire install took me about 7 hours. And this was because I took my time to make sure I did a top-notch install, and I also installed a grill behind the bumper to protect the intake filter.

I'm hearing more and more people installing the Injen CAI but I am not hearing any feedback on what they think of it. This concerns me a little because if people loved it we would be hearing rave reviews and this is not happening.

For those that have installed it, here are my questions?

Have you noticed any performance difference?
How's the sound?
Was it worth getting?

The answers to these questions would help me immensly as I am planning to get one next month.

Thanks.

Default Another Question

I do have one other question to add to the above. I know not many will be driving their Z's in the rain, but after talking to quite a few people, there is a bit of concern with driving the car in heavy rain, even though Injen says that the filter has to be completely submerged, I'm afraid that that might not be true. Any feedback would be helpful!
