Default All about Plenum Mods

Since I'm a newbie, I'm lookin for hp. I've tried searching using various strings, etc. Dug through old useless posts, blah blah.

Basically, I want to start a definitive thread on Plenums, spacers, etc. Basically listing each one, whether it'll clear the stock strut bar and hood, etc. Also, I should've added this....what's the power gain with each unit?

So unless there's a sticky elsewhere that I've overlooked, please help me out. Post 'em and I'll add 'em to the list.

Thanks

Crawford Plenum, No
Kinetics "Plastic", Yes
Kinetics SSV, Yes
AAM Spacer, No
Motordyne 5/16" Spacer, Yes

AAM does clear the stock bar, but will need to be shimmed up slightly

okay now what are the power gains for these plenums? I've heard good things about the crawford......but I'd have to find a strut bar to fit over it.

Or just buy crawford's strut bar that goes in front instead.

What is the difference in gains between the Motordyne 5/16" Spacer and the Motordyne 1/2" Spacer? Also how much power over a spacer will a crawford plenum produce?

Great questions. There is about a 1-1.5 peak HP difference between the 5/16" and the 1/2" spacers, but there is much more to it than just peak HP.

Your questions will be answered in the next issue of Sport Z Magazines "Plenum Mod Shootout".

The Winter 2006 issue of Sport Z Magazine will release around Dec. 1 and will start arriving in mailboxes and on newsstands within the week. Details will be announced on www.sportzmagazine.com in early November.

The next issue is a must read for those of you shopping for a plenum/plenum spacer.

Has anyone added your spacer in conjunction with an after-market plenum? Is that something that will produce better results than just having one or the other?

One guy added a 3/8" spacer to his Kinetix plenum. He said it gained 8HP but I don't think its really going to make a difference.

If it did make any difference, I think it would be minimal and not worth the cost or effort.

talked to AAM today and I questioned them about their spacer being thinner than the Motordyne 1/2", and wondering how they justified that other than the retaining of the factory SB, and he told me something along the lines of :

The factory plenum is somewhat angled, and you want to increase the airspace in the narrower region, when you up the whole thing equally you keep that difference, and you have an air buildup in the plenum that actually is counterproductive to performance, thats why they angle theirs in only the necessary and optimal areas.

hope that helps a bit, its not exactly what he said, but its as close to it as i can remember

Were the plenum/spacer dyno'd on both the 287 and 300hp engines?

Finally, tonight I have a chance to drive my friend's 05 G35C 6MT (stock) vs my 05 G35x with Motordyne 5/16" spacer with Z-tube & K&N. I feel my G35x is much smoother than his G35C due to the mods that I have made. I can feel a surge of power between 4000 RPM and 6000 RPM in my car. The stock G35C drives like it is breathing thru a straw. This most likely attributed to the stock intake. Even though G35C should have more hp power and I have an automatic, I have a strong feeling that I can out run him in my G35x. Tony, thanks for making this excellent product.

Both engines were tested so all bases are covered.....can't say much more than that or DaveO who wrote the article will put a spacer right up my old ^#&*(.... Trust me, this thread might be worthless without pics but you really dont want to see that happen do you?
