Default Best 130$ Ever spent

I know people hate just changing the muffler but I did it. Put a flomaster 40 on there and cut the pre muffler off. Sounds great. Saved atleast 20 lbs from the stock mufflers. I cant see spending 800$ on something thats going to sound the same and you cant even see it.

Sound is a personal preference, but if you're interested in performance, you might look at replacing the OEM Y-pipe.

probably a custom built one is cheaper in general..
Goto an exhaust shop let them build something dual from the testpipes/cats back... run it for a while if its way too loud add muffler to the tips

i am at least going to do cut off muffler and weld the oem tips back onto the new piping so it looks nice

Headers, test pipes and NO mufflers. Do you think it will be loud enough?

I did exactly that, straight pipes out with cats and it was stupid loud. It sounded as if someone jacked a .50 machine gun from a M4A1 abrams tank and started blasting it behind my car.

Can you post some pics and soundclips? I agree about the well spent dough. I think aftermarket systems cost too much but then again I am cheap.

custom fab. is the way to go man, im getting the same mufflers used in the HKS Hi Power Ti system that everyone loves, only I'm spending $1000 less and I get bigger piping and I can customize the sound however I want, add in resonators, X-pipe, whatever I feel like... no way will I ever buy an exhaust system

they stock pipes are so restricted haha... thats why most Z owners change exhausts.. that flowmaster isn't going to do anything but change sound. Plus if you own a Z do it the right way and fight the urge to be cheap.

Would it sound like crap if you just ran straight pipes all the way back from the headers? I'm talking test pipes>high flow ypipe>straight bpipe>and no muffler
That would be plain stupid loud. It probably wouldn't work due to the fact of there being no back pressure at all.

I like the cheap exhaust setup .I tracked down the garage that did my exhaust(also buy my tires there) they put mine on for 300.00 the previous owner gave the garage the draft and they made it...a lot cheaper than others out there. I dyno last month before the pulley at 248.9 whp SAE correct. Not bad dude paid 300.00 I paid 500.00 for plenum and STB. Stock 2003 runs 236 average, I dont have baseline so I dont know stock on mine. Back to the subject Custom is the route just as much HP in most cases
