Default injen sp 1986 intake

just purchased this intake and looks great, but didnt come with heat shield if i want to go short ram., which injen says it can. i called them up , injen claimed that the heat shield is not needed and performance is not hindered at all according to their research. what do all think about this claim?

I think the popcharger is a way better setup than the injen in short ram

the injen intake in CAI mode though I think is better than the popcharger

i wouldnt pay 100-130 bucks for a filter only mod like the jwt.might as well put a k&n drop in for 40. at least the injen which is an extra 100 you have options and a nice polished tube and i can go cai or short . best of both worlds and looks nicer than the jwt. performance wise we know there isnt much out of both

you are fine without the heat shield - it just bolts over the top of the stock manifold heatshield

I feel like I lost torque using the short ram version (injen intake), I got beat by a damn 2003 accord last night. ( I drive a 2003 touring 350z auto)!!

I don't think an intake is gonna make or break a race. I think it comes down to driver skill and reaction time.

+1. I don't see a point in buying a long intake then essentially converting it to a pop charger.

I disagree. I believe the popcharger is the best per/dollar intake available. sure if you have a rev-up Z with the velocity stack intake then MAYBE a drop in filter will be just as good. but I don't know that anyone has done a dyno to prove that yet. however the popcharger has been proven again and again to produce gains around 6rwhp. I don't know of any CAI system that has shown anywhere near the consistency that the popcharger has. and for those who plan on using plenum spacers, CAI's have been shown in some cases to lose hp/tq when used in combination. the stock z-tube is already a very efficient piece and the plastic tubing doesn't absorb heat like your standard aluminum CAI pipe.

Ok, I beat the accord last night. I extended the intake to the grill and added a topspeed exhaust.

I've got the Injen and like it alot. Go short ram in the winter when its raining and the temps are cold anyways. Got it for 189 shipped and can go cold air in the summer. Plus it puts the sensor in a different spot. I didn't want to pay 100+ for just a filter either. for 90 more I think its a great value.
