I did 2-3 months+ research before deciding on my HKS Hi-Power, i was looking for something that was "exotic", louder then stock (especially during WOT) and had that "tuned" sound to it. I just heard a few days ago that my exhaust now in stock and will be shipped to me tomorrow!!! (after 5½ months wait...)

I havent heard anything but stock Z's IRL, but i have collected over 80 sound clips of different exhausts from various places on the internet.

From my view the most "high pitched" exhausts are:
1. Amuse R1
2. Apexi N1
3. HKS Hi-Power

Adding test pipes increases the high pitch part of the sound for all exhausts (and ofcourse overall volume)

The HKS has a high pitched note to it, but still deep backround at the same time... Its hard to describe engine sounds with words

Just to add to the confusion

/Roger

There might be some HKS exhausts avalible now from the batch that came in from Japan a few weeks ago, if you have the $$$ check with some dealers on avaliblity.

For me the engine sound is a key element in the whole driving sensation, so i was willing to pay some extra to get the one i feelt suited my cars looks (with my upcomming mods) and my preference in sound best.

Why not go with the Nismo then? Sounds good, looks nice and even covered by warranty.

not high pitched in my case. the ferrari sound i described is more of a roar that i remember hearing driving one. it sounds amazing but it is no where near as high as nismos. nismo sounds like a sport bike almost.
i talk about it here.

Nice review NOBI, that is pretty much the perception that i have of the HKS exhaust after listening to various sound clips and looking at the design.

When i say it has a "high pitched" note i dont mean that it sounds anywhere near like the N1 and true TI exhausts hi notes does (which are more dominantly high pitched), it still has a little pinch of that in there but mixed with a "medium" and deep backround note, its like an orchestra not just a single instrument

I guess when we talk about the HKS and "high pitched" we refer to the "exotic" and Ferraish sound, not deep purely bassy sound that most aftermarket exhausts produces.

Yeah i once was behind a ferrari F360 Spyder at a light...
The thing rumbles @ idle... (droooled all over of course)
then when it gets going the rumble became a ear drum shattering symphony of this unique ferrari howl!
