Default intake help!

Hey I'm 18 years old I don't make a lot of money from going to school and working, and the 350 car payment, but i was going to keep saving a little up here and there. I was wondering what kind of short ram would be good for me to put on my car? I don't want to get the full cold air because i have future plans of turboing it (my dad said he would buy me one later on) and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. I know some of the cheap ones off of ebay can actually hurt more than help, and made very cheap and is even hard to get them to work properly. So what intake should i get that's decent and not to awful expensive.

and what about that one?? will it have a place for the mass air?
Thanks,
Cooper

If there was any new information about CAIs that has not already been posted, I would tell you honestly. Please look at the intake forum for hundreds of suggestions and opinions. Thanks.

Yeah man, check the intake/exhaust forum... but probly 95% of the people on here will tell you to get the JWT popcharger. Costs a little over a hundred, and works great. As for the whole deal with cold-air intakes depriving power, I never bought that claim. My first mod was one of those "cheap ones off ebay". he thing was like 30 bucks, 10 bucks on shipping, or somthin like that. It was a knock-off of the AEM CAI, and it works absolutely fine. The butt dyno told me that it does actually give a bit more power on the top end, and the sound is amazing.

And why does it matter if you installed a short-ram intake or a cold-air?? If you plan on going with FI, both of these will be useless because the kits have their own intake systems. I was in the same boat as you, not much dough to spend, so I went with the cheapest route off ebay and I do NOT regret it

It takes alot to pump out any more power from the VQ.... Nissan did a pretty damn good job of squeezing out as much power as possible.... So yeah you can drop a lot of money in mods (besides FI) and see only minor increases in power. However, adding a less-restrictive air intake should in theory produce more power (how much power depends on how much less-restrictive the new filter is compared to stock).

And people say that CAIs deprive the motor of power because it takes more energy to suck the air through a long intake duct. IMO this is total BS

Why not just convince your dad to buy you the turbo now rather than later.
