Default Installing Popcharger Today...Question.

Yes I know that there are a million threads on popchargers, and believe me I think that I have read every one of them. I could not find the answer to this question on any of them though.

Should you disconnect the battery before you unplug the MAF sensor? Does the battery need to be disconnected at all, or can it stay hooked up?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated as I am leaving in about an hour.

Thanks.

You can disconnect the negative battery terminal for peace of mind, but no need to disconnect the MAF. If you do disconnect MAF make sure you disconnect negative terminal and do not touch MAF internals.

You can disconnect the MAF without disconnecting the battery. Just don't turn the key on with it disconnected.

You don't have to unplug the MAF if you are careful. I installed mine yesterday without unplugging it. Just don't pull on the MAF housing and you will be fine.

The other weekend when I put mine on, I felt it was easier to disconnect the MAF. I didn't want to worry about screwing up the wires which look kind of delicate. I also disconnected the battery. It is an easy install, the hardest part was screwing the heat shield into the snorkle in the front bumper. Just hard to get your stubby screwdriver and hand in there.

+1 on no need to disconnect MAF. I had zero problem leaving it in. Hardest thing in the whole install was securing the heat shield to the nozzle. Got the cuts on my hand to prove it . . .

+1 also make sure you line up the MAF tube with the 2 arrows. If you look real close, you will see arrows...make sure they are line up when connecting the MAF tube.
This was never mentioned in the instructions. BTW I did not unplug the battery and I did take off the MAF. I did have to improvise a little when I put on the support bracket. lol

Get a pair of needle nose vice grips and a small drill bit. Hold the bit horizontal in the vice grips and heat the tip with a lighter. When it's hot poke the holes in the plastic snorkel. Then use a 1/4" socket wrench with a screwdriver bit to attach the screws. Make sure the drill bit is smaller than the screws. The hole is just to help the screws start.

BTW, I am positive you can disconnect the MAF without disconnecting the battery. I've done it a bunch of times without a problem. Just don't turn the car on with it disconnected and don't touch the sensor! You can install the popcharger without disconnecting it but it is easier if you get the MAF out of the way to install the heat shield.

i ended up taking an ice pick and heated the tip up with a butane torch and just kinda pushed it through the plastic. seemed to work well

Well, did the install and everything went really well. Those damn snorkel screws are a pain in the a$$. Used a piece of mechanics wire and heated it up with a propane torch and just slid it through the plastic, after that it was a piece of cake. I did unplug the MAF without disconnecting the battery and had no problems at all.

I am really glad that I did this mod....the sound is awesome...and the look is even better.

Thanks to all for the information it was a great help.

Very cool you got it in with minimal difficulty. It is an awesome, simple mod and I love mine every time I jump on it . . .

I wish I thought of using a hot metal tip, certainly would have made it a lot easier.
