Default Exhaust Controller

Hmm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXHAU...40583572QQrdZ1

I read the two other posts about these but they did not really help.

This bolts onto your exhaust so you can control the flow in essence the volume of your exhaust.

Good spot, I have been thinking about these since I saw one installed on a drag truck on Spike's HorsePower.

Has anyone installed these? Is there a set up for using stock exhaust with an alternate pipe with this on the end? That way you could hit a switch to go from stock to fully open.

I saw one guy on the G35 forum where he has installed two electric cut-outs in his stillen true dual. By doing that, he had an open exhaust at a flick of a switch (after cats).. but I am not sure if he has used the same brand of controller as this one..on ebay

I always have some doubts about Auto products on ebay..

I wonder what good a "T" pipe between the Y pipe and the cats would be with this thing attached to the bottom of it.....

Wonder what it would sound like?

The open-close valve is not meant for a regular exhaust system. Restricting exhaust flow is just dumb.

This is meant for header cut-outs. Closed you run mufflers, open you run open headers. Kind of cool until you think about tuning. Are you going to tune with the valve open or closed? If you tune to run mufflers, the car will run poorly with open headers. If you tune for open headers, the car will run poorly with mufflers. You can’t have it both ways.

I could be wrong here, but if you combine OPEN DUMPS, a standalone EMS with multiple maps like HKS F-Con Pro and a boost controller, you would get the same effect. ?? Open unrestricted exhaust flow when you want it?

So am I correct in thinking, with this controller you could run one map for the stock exhaust (street) and a second tune for the open unrestricted exhaust.

A good friend of mine has something like this on his SRT-4. His is a whole down pipe set up, with a electronic cut out. Same thing as this. He has the switch installed under the hood right now, he should be moving it to inside the car soon. It basically removed his cat and replaced it with a test pipe with two exits. One through the stock exhaust when the cut out is closed and the other straight out from the manifold when it is open. Its actually really bad ***. It goes from stock sounding to just plain sick in a few seconds.

True. And it sounds like a headache to me. If someone is serious about racing, and the car is street legal, this may be an alternative. I stand corrected, but this will put you in a open header class regardless of how it is configured.

electronic cut-outs are not the same as this...
this is an electric silencer that bolts on to exhaust...

You may be right. I haven’t seen anything that is just a electronic silencer. If Im not mistaken this is basically the same thing. I don’t see how it could just be a silencer. it says it can be adjusted from 100% open to totally closed. how would you have it totally closed? You cant just close your exhaust. If im not mistaken it acts like a dump so instead of your exhaust gases running form your headers through your exhaust system, it runs from your headers straight out a pipe. so basically little to no restriction.

As far as rasp on his car there is none. Its just plain loud, you can realy hear the turbo spool. As far as hp goes on his car Im not even going to try to guess. He hasnt dynoed sence.

Yes I race, but I do this for fun, not to be in any class or for money or anything. I will note that I have the open dump setup, so that simply dumps to atmosphere when my desired boost pressure is reached. It is loud at crap I can saw that. I seriously think it scares the crap out of people when it kicks in.

As for HP increase, for me it is simply a safety thing and allows me to push the limits of my boost and a/f mapping. I think my test pipes on the AAM 3" TD exhaust has given me as much as a 25 - 40+whp gain depending on boost level. BUT that only applies to FI cars, not sure how much you would get with the same setup on a NA car.

+1, thats what i was thinking too, not to be a kill joy but the gains youll see on the street, it wouldnt be worth it NA with the $$ you have spent unless you have boltons, cams, Utec etc... But to each his own. good luck!

Check with Julian or Jason at MRC Motorsports. They're vendors here. Julian was talking about an exhaust bypass like this a couple of months ago. He probably has it installed by now......(732)251-8200
