Thumbs up HKS suction intake installed w/PICS

i just got my HKS racing suction intake from performance nissan on friday along with a nismo oil cap and some motul motor oil i installed it earlier today and it took longer than i thought...it was such a b*tch to connect the metal pipe to the intake because the length of the final product is an EXACT fit in the engine bay. so what i ended up doing was 1. not using the heat shield that came with it, and 2. not using the bracket that attached to the bottom of the intake. the other end of this bracket attaches to a hole right below the intake itself, and i found it IMpossible to do (some of you may have successfully done it though ) soooo...i ended up using the mounting bracket from my old popcharger but i had to twist and bend it a little bit to attach it to the suction intake. the final result is still not perfect though, the mushroom part of the intake touches the air duct...i was thinking about getting rid of it, but im gonna try to do a little something tomorrow.

when i took it for a test drive...it makes a slight whistle right at the punch, then a deep throaty sound, then it starts whistling again. the whistle is not as loud as the popcharger though, but you still can hear it clearly. as far as performance..i really cant say that i felt an "increase" in hp, but i do know that it looks much more hotter than the popcharger in my engine bay

thanks tony!

I also have this intake. It's a total ***** to install. Took me a few hours to get it perfect. And you'll have to take it completely apart everytime you want to change the filter. At this point I'm perfect at the whole process but it's still annoying. Oh and that little screw on the front of the filter... Make sure its on there tight. Mine popped off while driving, it's been replaced by a nice long steel bolt

Since every little bit helps, find the time/patience to install the heat shield. Right now you will be sucking in lots of hot engine air. Hot air = less performance. Get your $$$ worth and install all the parts that came with the kit.

I have the same exact kit, but the mushroom isn't against the air duct like yours. I have avout 2-3 inches of clearance behind the duct.

seriously...it's NOT that hard to install an intake if you actually put the effort to remove the other parts step by step to get the intake to fit in and tighten down properly...tsk tsk

I just installed this intake kit on my G35C last weekend. I mangaged to get the supporting bracket near the filter mounted to the correct point underneath. It takes some adjusting but it will fit. I almost gave up before I decided to take a day away from the car to think and regroup. You may have to adjust the intake near the plenum before you can clear the front air duct. I don't have the air duct on the G, but have to clear some water collecter underneath the filter. I've got a few centimeters of clearance underneath my filter and plenty around it. The heatshield will take some bending to get it the right shape to fit around the filter. Good luck with that.

Overall, I've noticed increased engine response and slightly quicker acceleration. The sound is as you've described, a whiste noise with a growl. It sounds good, but it gets drowned out by my HKS exhaust . Gotta love the look though!

Take care.

how did you get it so far away from the air duct??? mine is practically pushing the duct outwards, so i ended up taking the air duct out. first by removing the bumper, then by removing a bracket where the bumper is pinned to, then removing the duct itself.

i can't wait to change my filter to a green one
